Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyesha P
Hi TYESHA, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, I developed a keen eye for style and a deep love for sneakers, often gravitating toward men’s fashion, which later shaped my tomboy aesthetic. In Catholic school, where uniforms were the norm, dress-down days became my personal runway; but winning “Best Dressed” my freshman year of college only fueled my passion even more. While in college a class on fabric production and garment construction introduced me to the basics of creating clothing, and I quickly realized my strengths were in foundational elements. Understanding fabrics, tech packs, patterns and sizing became a big interest of mine. This love for the process inspired me to start hizxhierz, a brand that now embodies everything I am.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Entrepreneurship is undoubtedly a challenging path, especially when you’re managing every aspect of the business yourself. Starting hizxhierz came with its fair share of obstacles. As a self-taught, creative, I had to learn every aspect of building a brand on my own—from mastering Photoshop and designing mockups to sourcing fabric and finding reliable manufacturers. None of it came easy. The financial challenges, especially the money lost on poor-quality samples and dealing with manufacturers who ran off with my funds, had a significant impact on both cash flow and production deadlines. No one warned or prepared me for the twists, turns, and mishaps that come with starting a business. I jumped in, believing my passion alone would make the journey easier—but I was surely mistaken. Building a brand from scratch often feels isolating, overwhelming, and discouraging, requiring an immense amount of self-belief and persistence to push through. Despite the setbacks, I’ve remained committed to trusting the process, knowing that growth takes time. Every challenge has been an opportunity to learn and adapt, and through it all, I’ve learned to stay focused, keep evolving, and trust that the journey will continue to unfold exactly as it should.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself a multifaceted creative rather than just a fashion designer. In 2014, I founded hizxhierz (pronounced ‘his and hers’), a cut-and-sewn clothing brand based in Brooklyn, NY.
Specializing in quality craftsmanship with a contemporary urban edge, hizxhierz achieves a perfect balance of comfort, durability, and style. It is dedicated to prioritizing quality over quantity, avoiding mass production. From designing and sourcing fabrics to managing production and directing photoshoots, I am directly involved in crafting each piece, from concept to final stitch. Hizxhierz serves as both a personal journey and my creative outlet, pulling me through challenging moments and becoming my therapeutic space for design.
Beyond designing, Hizxhierz reflects my expertise in various aspects of brand building. I offer comprehensive consultation services, guiding startup brands from initial concept to product execution, including designing mockups and tech packs, creating logos, connecting with manufacturers, and building websites.
I am incredibly proud of how Hizxhierz has evolved from a mere idea into a full realization of my creative vision. It represents not just clothing, but also personal style, creativity, and the fulfilling journey of building something significant from the ground up.
