Today we’d like to introduce you to Waya The Healer

Waya Hooker

Hi Waya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off making Content on Instagram back in 2013. I didn’t think much of it. At the time, I was homeless, so I thought, why not do something with my time by making videos and taking pictures. Well, that turned into a passion. I want to make more and get better at it. Fast forward into 2015, I started my transition from female to male. I wanted to document my journey. So to Instagram, I went. I quickly gained popularity and landed my first magazine feature in FTM Magazine. This was my sign that I’m in the right field. But life and the fast popularity hit me hard emotionally. I had to take a break and ended up shutting down my very popular Instagram account. Around 2018 I came back into the social media world through tiktok and haven’t looked back since! I’ve gained the eye of major companies working as an influencer, model, and UGC creator!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t. Being a two-spirit trans person of experience isn’t always welcome in some of the spaces I enter. I struggled with years of homelessness, abusive relationships, and even my own self-doubt. But I’m still here standing strong and making my dreams a reality.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Content creator, Influencer, and model. I specialize in marketing, creating, and being myself. I’m most of the fact that for ten years now, I’ve been doing all this on my own and finally as of this year, I’m networking with the right people and brands! My three biggest moments have been Modeling with Stud model project, becoming a contracted model with Mack The Tailor x House of Devarcia, and Becoming a Brand influencer for the Popular company Bedroom Kandi by Atlanta’s own Kandi Burruss. What sets me apart is my identity. Who I’ve fought hard to become and discover. Being Two spirit is a deep part of my culture . By representing that I make my ancestors proud of me everyday!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Going to the beach as a child I love the ocean it’s always called me. My family and I went every year of my childhood.
