Conversations with William Ramsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Ramsey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I originally started throwing events in 2019 just to see if I could actually pull it off. These events were known (and still known) as The Pride Takeover, a showcase of local queer artists. Right off the bat, these events were successful and quickly gained a word of mouth following. I then decided to expand my brand and start throwing other events that were related to things I found interesting. So this year, I began throwing dance parties that centered on early 2000s Indie Rock music. I’m now in the process of turning this brand (an idea that literally started in my kitchen) into a full-fledged business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think starting any business will face challenges. The main challenge for me was and still is finding spaces to host these events. Ultimately, I would like to own my own venue and I am determined to do that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am both an artist and an entrepreneur and to be honest, I feel you have to be both if you’re going the independent route. I make alternative music that is mainly about mental health. I also throw events based on alternative, queer and indie culture. I think the thing that separates me from my peers is my ability to bring various types of people (whom would normally not interact with each other) together into one space. I’m naturally a leader and I am good at bringing all walks of life together.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am inherently a risk taker. My philosophy is you’re gonna die anyway, so you might as well do what you actually want. That being said, I am calculated. I analyze things from all angles and calculate the risk/reward.

Pricing:

  • If someone wants me to host, organize and throw their event price ranges from $700 to $3000
