Conversations with Yashica Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yashica Davis.

Hi Yashica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
By society’s standards, I was considered a statistic. A single mother with 2-children. Instead of being what society thought I would be, I decided to be what I knew I could  be. I’ve raised 2-children (boys). Jayden is a graduate student at the University of Georgia. Justin is a Senior at North Atlanta High School and one of the captains of the boys track team. My love for my children pushed my drive and ambition. I earned my MBA and am currently working on my DBA in Organizational Leadership. I’m a high-ranking HR/Operations professional and business owner. I’m a fitness enthusiast who works out multiple days a week. I am also a member of the first African American Sorority (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc). My childhood love for fashion has always remained a major component  of who I am. Because of that, I started “The Shic Blog” six years ago. My blog is a safe space for women. I love women. I love what we embody. I encourage women to be authentically and unapologetically themselves; hence the birth of “Park Avenue Shic.” I created this  online boutique to allow women to feel sexy at any age. I am in my 40’s and I am the spokesmodel of my brand. I wanted to represent my brand to show women that what you exude from the inside will show on the outside.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not always been easy, but definitely worth it. I have overcome an illness that could have cost me my life, I struggled financially, I had to miss out on time spent with my children while attending school at night. I was not taken seriously as a minority woman in Corporate America.  I am who I am today because I understand that “to whom much is given, much will be required. (Luke 12:48).” You would never know by looking at me that I have been through a great deal, but if my journey and story can inspire someone else then I know I’m living my purpose.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Professionally- I am in HR/Operations for a large medical company. My specialty is seeing individuals maximize their full potential and assisting  companies with effective operational strategies . I thrive in locating and attracting talent. I am most proud of every individual I was able to provide a job to; every individual who has told me that I have made a positive impact in their life. What sets me apart from others? I am relatable. I possess a tone that causes people to feel comfortable and safe. My journey is one that others can relate to and be inspired by. I interface well in any environment. I’m the fashionable HR guru!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Well of course I didn’t arrive here on my own! I have a very strong Christian faith.  My mother and sister are 2-of  my biggest cheerleaders. They support me in a way no one ever has. I lost my father suddenly at a young age and my mother/sister have always been my rocks and my protectors. My children cheer me on daily. They are my biggest accomplishments.  Jayden and Justin love me unconditionally and push themselves to be great because they see “mama” doing it. I have a small circle of  amazing friends who have advocated for me throughout my journey. I have had amazing mentors in my life (Dr. Kotina Hall and Dr. Cathy Kennedy Harris have been extremely instrumental in my journey).
