Today we’d like to introduce you to Yazmeene.
Hi Yazmeene, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Yes, my name is Yazmeene and my story first began when I was really young I was 9 years old when I learned that I had a talent for singing. My grandma always had a passion for the arts and was also really talented so she helped me find my talents.Once she saw that I had sang this one particular song with her she was shocked by it. she told everyone after that. She realized that I enjoyed it as much as she did. And wanted to push me to do more with it. Ever since then I never stopped singing or making music. I also participated in many choirs at school , joined the St. Louis children Choir around that time which was hard to get into. Even tried a couple piano lessons. While also having my family by my side helping me
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road for me. I have had my ups and downs with music. People telling me that I could not sing at school, people being jealous of my talents, people comparing my music to others, even some family members telling me that music could never be a “real” career and to pick something else. I also suffer from anxiety and social anxiety so it’s very hard to put myself out there and to share my music or even a piece of myself to others. Ive felt unmotivated, discouraged, confused, rejected and even drawn away at a certain point because of life distractions and different interest with discovering myself . but then I realized the older I’ve gotten with me continuing to grow my heart will always be drawn to music and back to the roots because music is apart of me and who I am. No matter how long I leave it I behind it will come always come back to me. Embracing my creative side.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Yes, I am a singer/songwriter I write music and go to the studio and record it at times. I also enjoy theatre as well. I try to volunteer to theatre places so I can network and connections with people. As for as my music I have not network with anyone recently or let out anything just yet but there is a song that is still out called “Stand Strong” which is saying that even through the tough times you can make it through that I wrote a couple years back. Now I am going to release a new song soon called “Unfortunate” I feel like the new song is also very relatable talking about heartbreak and betrayal by someone who you really cared about but at the end it’s not going to change a thing or even with you dwelling in the situation you just learn acceptance and learn from the mistakes. In the end I am really proud of where I am, my growth and who I am becoming. and how I am made unique and set apart from others. I am not made for anybody and I am not like everybody .. and that can be a good thing regardless with how I feel at times
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Allot of people think that since I can be reserved at times I may not be interested in the things that they’re into such as going out to parties or , traveling Some may be surprised because I am open to many things in life. In college I switched my major many of times because of all my interest. I enjoy swimming I used to want to become a marine biologist. I enjoy modeling and creating even things pertaining to the health care field so when I tell others these things they act suprised even with music they act surprised. Anything
that you may think that I might be into or who I am most of the time I am the opposite and I’m always looking for something new and challenging to get into.
