Conversations with Yolanda Aguayo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Aguayo.

Hi Yolanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, where I also studied cosmetology. I’ve always wanted a job in the beauty industry.  After relocating, I attended college in Miami and worked at the makeup counter in the Biscayne Blvd Mall. After relocated to Atlanta, I made the decision to start teaching Spanish at several Christian schools. Working with some of the biggest cosmetic companies, like Mac, Iman, Chanel, and Clinique, has helped spark my interest and take a keen eye on methods and trends in makeup.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Over the years I mastered the skills of makeup artistry which has made me the professional makeup artist I am now. I made the decision to create my own company, Glam By Yoli LLC. I started giving private and group classes on applying makeup. I aimed to enhance natural beauty, empower women, and instill confidence in them. My work has been showcased at prestigious events like The Lupus Foundation Fashion Show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Divas Unlimited Annual showcases, and Bonner Brothers Hair Show just to name a few. One of my most pleasure experiences was doing make up application on cancer survivors. In addition, I have worked with local and international artists in throughout Atlanta and the Caribbean. My goal is to share my vision of modern beauty with every woman everywhere. My makeup is my passion and calling.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I decided to branch out on my own, I was faced with many obstacles. I began doing my friend’s makeup for free and began sharing my work on Facebook and Instagram. For a full face, I would just charge $35.00 or $45.00 dollars. When I went to work at the makeup counters, I gave out business cards to customers to start advertising my services. In addition to the encouragement from friends who believed in me, I began investing the money I earned in supplies to grow my clientele  I also want to continue doing my makeup classes for all age groups that are interested in learning the artistry.  I’m grateful for the friends and individuals who helped me along the way. Without my clients and close friends, I would not be where I’m today.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I am a makeup artist, that loves what she does, and I specialize in enhancing women’s natural beauty. My reputation for exceptional customer service, providing the looks my clients’ desires, and simple just giving a listening ear at times, precedes me. In November Ist, I celebrated twelve years of Glam by Yoli doing make-up and empowering women’s lives. When I am finish doing there makeup and see their confidence and big smile, that’s what brings me joy and happiness in what I do.
