Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaniya Barnett.
Hi Zaniya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began modeling as a fun ruse at first. I loved to take pictures and make memories so my friends told me to try to get behind the camera for real! At first, I was so scared with so many lights only on me but after a while, it went on with ease. Once the first set of pictures came up and went I knew this was something I wanted to pick up on. After that, I just kept organizing shoots with different photographers to try different styles and angles. I found a new love within the creativity of photography and ran with the possibilities in it!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never the easier one. It took a lot for me to get where I’m at now and even then I have so far to go. My biggest struggle is confidence but once you’re in front of that camera, it’s a little too late to second guess yourself! It used to really scare me because I’m not always feeling my absolute best. The best thing I could do for myself was fake it until I made it! Usually after or during that my confidence comes back.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would most definitely say that I specialize in creative projects. Whether on paper, on camera, writing, videos, etc. I shine best in creativity. Most know me for that as well considering the fact I sell literal art pieces. My own art and my ability to create art is something I’m most proud of. My mother used to stress the importance of recognizing my ability and using that to my advantage. No one is me and I am no one else as in, no one could ever be me and I could never be anyone else. That realization gives me an advantage over others.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be the ones with my little siblings. My brother and I used to listen to a lot of music and have scare prank wars!! He kept me company as a kid and a reason to lead in a sense. We played and laughed at the dumbest stuff together and looking back I think those were my most favorite times. I’m looking forward to passing those memories on to my newer younger siblings.
