Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Belton. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Collectively, with over 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry, we’ve come to the point within our careers where the clear goal is to serve others in all creative capacities.
Travis’ accolades include live performances, vocal coaching, creative directing, artist development, and motivational speaking. While Kierra excels in the areas of radio/television hosting, voice-over acting, brand influence, and film production.
With everything we’ve accomplished individually and understanding the many voids left unfulfilled within the industry for creatives, we both pondered the idea of creating spaces [under our personal brands] specifically for persons who could benefit from such communities.
Subsequently, after much conversation, we decided to design a joint hub geared toward meeting all needs [including but not limited to], creating an environment were like-minded individuals feel encouraged and motivated to think beyond self-limited thoughts.
Therefore in 2021, The Creative Playground Studios became a new film, photography, podcast, meeting, and event space within the downtown Atlanta area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No matter how cliche’, nothing worth having comes easily. While we’ve been successful at being a blessing to others, operating CP Studios has been anything but a smooth road.
Our largest struggles have been in the areas of design and exposure.
The design of CP Studios was carefully crafted by us. From murals to the specific meaning behind the paint color in each individual room. We wanted to provoke thought, ignite creativity, and bring ease to the creative mind.
That being said, we encountered several opening delays in an effort to create the perfect environment.
Another struggle came in the area of exposure.
With a sudden influx of studios popping up all over the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, we had to be specific about what would set our studio apart from others and how to get creatives into the space in order to view said differences for themselves.
After a slight period of trial and error, we’ve come up with a solid plan that allows us to connect with new creatives within CP Studios on a weekly basis.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
CP Studios is located in Downtown Atlanta [near the old Braves stadium], just minutes away from Georgia State University and Hartsfield/Jackson International Airport.
The space was designed specifically for content curators.
The industrial architecture atmosphere houses three multi-faceted rooms, 18 x 12ft. wall mounted green screen, 18 x 12ft. wall mounted white based background, makeup/glam room, 12 x 14ft. podcasting space, 10 x 12ft. color-changing backdrop wall, fully equipped 6 x 8ft. photo/film editing dark room, and a creative juice space [writer’s room].
We are proud of CP Studios in its entirety as well as the many brands, networks, independent artists, chefs, health & wellness specialists, etc….. that we’ve been able to assist since our doors opened.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Travis [Co-Owner CP Studios]:
I grew up a very introverted child who lacked confidence within myself. Regardless of my eagerness to exert boldness and stand firm in my talent, I could never rise to the occasion. Little did I know, life was about to shift during a weekly worship session at church.
During that session, I was challenged to lead a song selection and it changed my life forever.
Not only did I exceed my own expectations, but I exceeded the expectations of the many men/women who was there to fellowship.
It was at that moment, I made a conscious decision to further nurture the gift placed within me unapologetically and without pause. Which has been my approach to life thus far.
Kierra [Co-Owner CP Studios]:
Growing up, I wasn’t popular in school. In fact, you could find me at the nearest Enoch Pratt Free Library engrossed in a multi-series novel or mimicking Michelle Trachtenberg’s 1996 role as “Harriet The Spy”. I was able find solace and identity in those characters, which was something that I struggled with.
I was different and I knew it, but I couldn’t figure out how to embrace it.
That was until middle school when we were assigned a poet to study and I was gifted with Nikki Giovanni.
“You must be unintimidated by your own thoughts” – NG
I began reading and re-reading her poems, wanting to know more about her life and eventually finding myself wishing I was old enough to talk to her.
The eagerness I felt to understand Nikki on a deeper level was passed onto Oprah, Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones, Montell, etc….. I would sneak and watch these talk shows before my mother got home from work, envisioning myself in those chairs, sharing those moments.
The journalist, host, and storyteller I became was birthed in those moments.
