Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexion.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started DJing and producing when I was 14. All I had was a free DJ app, my love of EDM music, and inspiration from The Chainsmokers and Martin Garrix. Over the next couple of months, I would continuously post these horrible DJ mixes/mashups on Soundcloud until I met my mentor in November of 2017. He was the type of guy who taught me about the business side and how to run a successful DJ gig. Not long after, I got to go with him and DJ weddings, races, and dances.

For the next 4 years, I was perfecting my craft both in DJing and in music production. During that time period, I was networking like crazy while managing my first-label deals. Soon after, I met a great group of DJs and other creatives in Atlanta who put me in touch with some of the nightclubs down there. 2 months later, I began playing at Believe Music Hall opening/closing for some huge DJs.

After recently moving to Nashville for college, I began working with an amazing group of DJs and producers in the city. Not long after, I ended up playing at my first festival during Imagine Music Festival. Right now, I’m continuing to work more hard than ever to create a sound that not only I like but something that others like despite if they’re into EDM or not.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road, haha. You’re constantly running into problems with your audio engineers, producers, singers, booking managers, etc. With that being said, I wouldn’t trade DJing and producing for anything else in this world. The struggles are worth it because nothing is better than getting up on stage and see a few thousand people dance to your music. I also think that people don’t see 95% of what we go through. DJing is more than just pressing a button and seeing people dance.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in DJing deep house, tech house, and progressive house. I’m known most notably for my music and am most proud of the shows I play. My age and willingness to perfect my craft are what stand out from others. Who else can say that they’ve played shows at nightclubs when they haven’t even graduated high school yet?

My most proud moment is when I DJed at my first music festival. I got the call a 5 days before I was supposed to play at Imagine Music Festival which is one of Georgia’s biggest festivals. I had no idea what day, time, or stage I was going to play until 8 hours before my set. I ended up walking on stage not even having a tracklist and having to do everything on the fly. In the end though, it turned out great and everyone loved it.

What makes you happy?
Producing music makes me happy because I can convey my emotions and thoughts into it. EDM is an escape for me, and I can sit there making something that brings me joy knowing that others are going to listen to that and feel the same way I feel. The EDM community as a whole is very accepting and open, and it makes me happy when I see that because it’s so hard to find that in 2022.
