Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Mathis.
Hi Alexis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Getting started in spiritual therapy is not all it’s cracked up to be! Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful and fulfilling, but it’s not just sage, chakras, and Instagram quotes. It takes real work.
For most of my life, my mission has been to help people — whether that meant making them laugh until they forgot their problems or sitting quietly and helping them feel seen and heard. I’ve always believed in meeting folks where they are, and comedy was my first language in that.
I come from a deeply musical family — my parents, cousins, aunties, you name it, somebody had a mic or a tambourine in hand. So I was on stage early, whether I wanted to be or not! That stage became my safe place — a space where I could step away from whatever was going on at home and become whoever I needed to be in that moment.
But as I got older, I realized something: running from your problems doesn’t make them run from you. That spotlight might hide the mess for a little while, but eventually, the lights go down and you’re still you. That realization led me to dig deeper — into psychology, emotional health, spiritual well-being — all of it.
In my research and training, I discovered that a lot of our emotional and mental struggles are learned. They’re passed down, soaked up, absorbed — not necessarily something wrong with our brains, but often something wrong with our upbringing, our environment, or just plain old survival habits we outgrew.
I got hungry for understanding. I went back to school, took classes in psychology, studied the history of religion, and even became an ordained minister. HA! But for me, it was about bridging the gap between science and spirit. I wanted to explore where the two meet, not where they fight.
That’s how my organization Love, Light, and Milk came to be. (Yes, “Milk” — because everybody needs nourishment, and sometimes that nourishment is a hard truth with a soft landing.) I work with folks on balancing five core areas: physical, emotional, financial, mental, and spiritual health.
Now, I’m no expert in every single area — I can’t do your taxes and I’m not gonna pretend I can bench press 200 pounds — but I do have a strong network of professionals I refer folks to when I know someone else can better serve them.
So, my work is really about connection — helping people reconnect with themselves, their purpose, and their power. And yes, we laugh along the way. Because healing without humor? That’s just homework.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A spiritual awakening is never smooth. It doesn’t come wrapped in butterflies and kittens; it comes with tears, confusion, and a whole lotta ugly crying. For me, it was dark. I fell into a deep depression—suicidal thoughts and all—and I didn’t know how I was gonna pull myself out.
I remember being in my late twenties, crying every single day for a month straight. And not the cute, one-tear-down-the-cheek kind of cry either—I’m talking full-on, snotty-nose, can’t-breathe sobbing. Looking back, I realize I was mourning the old me. My old life. Everything I thought I was supposed to be.
At one point, I decided I was done. I bought a ticket to the Dominican Republic, fully prepared to let life take me out. I’d heard it was dangerous, and I said, “Perfect. Let’s speed this thing up.” I didn’t speak Spanish, didn’t know a soul, and had never been there before. But honey—God had jokes.
Next thing I know, I’m on the beach dancing salsa and merengue, eating food so good it made me forget my problems, and sipping rum like it was therapy. And somewhere between the dancing and the eating, I realized—I didn’t wanna die anymore. I wanted to live.
That trip didn’t end my life—it saved it. It cracked me open. I came back with a new sense of purpose, ready to help others who were fighting their own battles. I found my joy again, and I’ve been walking in it ever since.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is that I don’t just focus on one kind of healing — I mix the spiritual, emotional, and mental all together, like a good gumbo. You’re gonna get all the flavors when you work with me!
Part of my method is something I call MITE — that stands for Motivation, Inspiration, Transformation, and Experience. It’s small but mighty, baby.
Motivation is that external boost — you know, when you leave a seminar feeling like you can conquer the world, and then a week later, you’re back on the couch with snacks and self-doubt. We’ve all been there!
Then comes Inspiration — that’s the internal spark. It’s when you hear somebody’s redemption story and think, “Okay, if they can do it, I can too.” That’s where your heart wakes up.
Now, Transformation — that’s where the real fun begins. That’s when motivation and inspiration hook up and have a baby named Breakthrough. That’s when lives start changing for real.
And finally, Experience. Because listen — life is gonna life, no matter how spiritual you are. I experience it every day. I make mistakes, I learn lessons, and yes, I still bust a move and shake my tail feather every now and then! Healing doesn’t mean you stop living — it means you start living on purpose.
Right now, I’m teaching both online and in-person classes called Infinite Energy. There are different levels — we start with the science behind energy, then move into how to actually exchange and transform it. Basically, we become our own alchemists.
Now, these classes are a journey. You’ll laugh until your sides hurt, and sometimes you’ll cry because something deep finally came up to be released. But through it all, you’re held by a great team and a safe, supportive space.
I like to say — come for the healing, stay for the breakthroughs, and leave feeling brand new.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
First off, my girl Janine Baryza-Ly — that’s one of my closest friends, and let me tell you, having an internationally known medium and pastor on speed dial? That’s next-level self-care! She hosts classes, has her own monthly publication, and she’s one of those people who’ll read your spirit and remind you to drink your water in the same conversation.
Now, when it comes to what I watch, Soft White Underbelly. That show is like therapy for the soul and a sociology class rolled into one. Real people, real pain, real redemption — it’s raw and unfiltered. It reminds me how human we all are, and that healing doesn’t always look pretty. Sometimes it comes straight from the gutter with a story to tell. I absolutely love it.
And then there’s Tony Robbins. Listen, I’ll take Tony in any form — infomercial, podcast, carrier pigeon, whatever. The man could sell air to a hurricane. Whenever I need that big motivational push, I put him on, and suddenly I’m like, “You know what? I can do this!”
Now for my spiritual side — Dr. Myles Munroe is my go-to for a dose of faith mixed with common sense. I’m not big on organized religion, but I respect his way of blending spiritual truth with practical wisdom. It’s like he says, “Yes, pray about it — but also, handle your business.” I can get behind that.
The person who really transformed my life? Burge Lyons-Smith of Essence of Being. Attending her seminars and reading her monthly publications took me to a whole new level. She doesn’t just teach — she upgrades your whole operating system. Thanks to her, I learned how to get out of my own way and step fully into my purpose.
Between Janine’s divine insight, Soft White Underbelly’s raw truth, Tony’s energy, Dr. Myles’ wisdom, and Burge’s transformation tools, I stay spiritually fed, emotionally balanced, and just the right amount of dangerous with a microphone.
