Daily Inspiration: Meet Amber Kelley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Kelley.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In Nov. 2017 I found out that after trying for nine years any husband and I were expecting our first child together. April 12th, 2018, I gave birth to Malia. Malia was born 5 months early and passed away in my arms. As anyone can imagine I was severely depressed. I have two adopted kids and all I ever wanted was a child that I created. Due to me being born with cancer Neuroblastoma and my husband having a stroke and dealing with congestive heart failure, becoming pregnant has been a task for us. All my life I have been taking care of others and taking in others and I couldn’t give birth to my daughter who I created out of love. After, a couple of months of depression I decided to get up and do something other than lay in the bed an waste my days away. I have no clue on how I decide to take on candle making but, I did. I took a class with a lady that I found on social media of course she scam me and many different ways but, again I decided not to give up. I continued my candle-making journey teaching myself and spending a lot of money and time perfecting my craft. I became to love candle making and it calm me in so many ways. I decided to make my candle room Malia’s old room. My reasoning behind that was because I wanted to ensure each and every product that I decided to make was made with love and that my customers could feel the love in my products.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, my first challenge was my so-called mentor scamming me out of thousands of dollars a week before my first annual Malia’s Essentials pop-up shop. Having no funding having to do everything out of my own pocket. Wasting products trying to ensure everything was perfect. Basically, being self-taught

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make luxury candles. I make sure each candle is made with pure essential oils and pure coconut wax. The essentials some are made by myself with herbs that I grow or buy from other herbalist to ensure its purity. The coconut wax that I use can be used on your skin after it has cooled and I ensure this because my youngest daughter has skin problems and she like to wear scented items that causes flare-ups. I wanted her to be able to use something that doesn’t cause flare-ups with her skin. I am mostly known for the quality of candle that I provide. The smell is long-lasting just like the candle. What makes me stand out is I actually take my time I research I make sure that I put love into my candles/ products. The thing that I am most provide of is my ability to overcome. I have had so much in my way to stop me on this journey, but I kept going. I didn’t let depression stop me and I continue to honor my babygirl every day in every product that I make.

What do you think about luck?
I will always think that Malia is my good luck charm. Every moment I want to give up I think of her. I think of honoring her.
