Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrés Guerrero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrés Guerrero.

Andrés, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been building a relationship with art for a very long time. At this point, it feels like 16 years; I’m 21 years old now. I grew up as the fourth of five creative boys, and so I was blessed with a direct source of inspiration [and competition] on a daily basis. At first, it was me watching my brothers and experiencing their unique talents, and then I would put whatever I saw and learned into practice. By doing that I was able to realize my love for cinema and music at a very young age. I’m still discovering so much about my craft and all its possibilities, but I’m forever living as an extension to the world my brothers and I created for ourselves when we were just bored kids.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s been plenty of challenges so far, but none that have negatively affected me in the long run. If anything, I’ve been inspired by the downs just as much as the ups. I knew what I was stepping into when I decided to choose a career path that is filled with twists and turns with no definite outcome/destination. I’m excited by the unknown, and I’m at peace with the process because regardless of the “outcome” or “destination,” I’m doing what I genuinely love to do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I’m a photographer/filmmaker. For anyone who follows my socials, they know me as just that. I specialize in concept creation, cinematography, creative directing, and editing. What not many people know about me is that I have a deep love of music. I was a band kid so I know the fundamentals of music theory. I try to sneak in my own music in films, promo videos, etc. I’m currently working on a playlist of music for an amazing fashion show called “Everything Weird” by Soreem. I’m also working on the visuals. December 4th is showtime.

What are you most proud of, creatively?
My answer to this is always changing. For now, I’m most proud of two projects: My thesis film from film school and a music video I shot and directed back in March. My thesis isn’t currently available to the public, but you can see the music video on YouTube. It’s called “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE IS.” by Hoolie Armando. Both projects presented strong challenges and I was able to discover what comes when you eliminate self-doubt and replace it with absolute confidence in your vision. We built a rain machine and shot in artificial rain. That was a first, and now I’m addicted to taking on new challenges.

What sets me apart from others? I don’t really compare myself to others, that distracts you from the point of it all.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is being thrown in the air and caught by my father at Cascade Elementary’s playground. I remember it vividly. It was a sunny and hot day, and I had this rush of adrenaline and euphoria because it felt like I was so close to flying. I had to be like five or six years old. Everything I do, if passion is involved, makes me feel a little closer to that moment. I get that kind of optimism from my mother, the strongest woman I know.
