Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrew Patch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Patch.

Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started getting tattooed at 18 years old. The tattoo shop quickly became the place where I wanted to spend all my time. I was fortunate enough to be offered an apprenticeship and I worked in shops in Midtown and Monroe, Georgia before finding my current home of nine years at Southern Star Tattoo.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a very bumpy ride for the first few years. I had pretty high expectations of myself and it’s challenging when you are not able to meet those expectations because you are new at the craft. I would lay awake at night and obsess about a tattoo that I had done and think about all the ways that I could have done better. Unfortunately the self-criticism part never really goes away, but I enjoy tattooing more and more every day.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I prefer tattooing in the traditional style. I like bright colors and black shading. I love the way those images look in the skin 50 years down the road. It’s like they only get better with age. I like to try and put a modern touch to the classic tattoo designs. I want them to be a little different but still recognizable. But, my goal is to give the client a tattoo that will make them happy. I want it to fit their style and personality. If they are happy, then I’m happy.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can support me by getting tattooed, buying paintings, and telling friends about their experiences. I love the challenge of working with someone’s ideas and trying to have the end result have both of our personalities come through.
