Daily Inspiration: Meet Angela Bell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Bell.

Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally, my business was called Minerva Scribe Editorial and I created it in the summer of 2017. I graduated from the University of West Georgia in 2015 and I was in the process of figuring out what I wanted to do with my degree. I started doing various literary and social media internships, including Black Business Review and GenZ Publishing, where I became proficient in writing and editing books and articles. I realized my passion for editing manuscripts and aiding in the book production process. I enjoyed helping authors figure out the direction of their craft. After completing an internship in 2018 with Akashic Books in Brooklyn, I revamped my services to include author publicity and renamed it Angela Bell Literary Services. Since then, I have garnered an eclectic portfolio of edited works and author clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been completely smooth, but I am still very fortunate. Finding my footing in the literary world was intimidating, primarily because it’s so saturated that it’s hard to stand out for creatives and for those behind the scenes. Through trial and error, I’ve found methods to gain clientele and to also elevate myself as an editor and publicist. One of my biggest struggles has been essentially learning how to run a business. I’ve always considered myself a creative with the necessary skill set, but the uncreative management side used to give me a run for my money. However, I’ve grown substantially within the last five years, creatively or otherwise.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an editor and publicist for indie and self-published writers. My editing services include developmental editing, line editing, and standard proofreading. I think I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in my field and for all of the opportunities I’ve been afforded to help creatives perfect their manuscripts. I love helping self-published authors birth their hard work into the world because it gives them the chance to take control of the publication process and what comes after. I’m a writer myself so I understand just how difficult and time-consuming writing can be, so I always approach my work with compassion and solidarity.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Firstly, I’m interested in collaborating with digital artists and book formatting specialists on book projects. It’s a great way for me to branch out and team up with others who support the vision. I am also looking to work with independent book publishers as a contract editor.

Any authors that are interested in my services can reach me either through my website or by email!
