Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Washington.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to art. As a kid, I would sit and watch my older brother draw, and that’s what first sparked my love for creativity especially art that tells a story or captures a moment in time. Early on I was sketching, painting, and experimenting with different mediums, even throughout college where I earned my degree. But tattooing really called to me. I was always getting tattoos myself, and my friends would joke that since I knew how to draw, I should give it a shot.
Like many artists, I started with the basics practicing on paper, then fake skin, and soaking up as much knowledge as I could from artists I admired. It wasn’t an overnight process. There were countless late nights, trial and error, and constant pressure I put on myself to get better. My mentor and brother, Cash aka Reggie, played a huge role in guiding me and helping me grow as a tattoo artist.
Over time, I found my lane and began specializing in the style I connected with most cartoon and animated tattoos. I pull inspiration from the shows and characters I grew up on, like Dragon Ball Z, other anime classics, Marvel Comics, and even Powerpuff Girls. That nostalgic, bold, and fun style has become what I’m most known for. I also travel with my work, which has allowed me to connect with new clients, expand my reach, and keep evolving as an artist.
Where I’m at today is the result of consistency, passion, and always striving to outdo my last piece. Tattooing isn’t just my career
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve experienced just about every emotion while pursuing tattooing. From the outside, it can look glamorous, but behind the scenes it takes sacrifice, patience, and resilience. Early on, one of my biggest struggles was breaking into the industry finding the right apprenticeship, proving myself, and putting in long hours of practice with little pay or recognition.
Even after getting established, the challenges didn’t stop. Building a loyal client base, balancing the creative side with the business side, and standing out in a competitive market have all been hurdles. There are days when appointments fall through, when the weight of creating permanent art feels heavy, or when self-doubt creeps in. Learning how to handle difficult clients and accept criticism forced me to grow in patience and professionalism.
In the end, every obstacle has been necessary. They’ve shaped me into the artist I am today and continue to fuel my drive to keep learning, improving, and pushing forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a tattoo artist based out of Atlanta, but I also travel to bring my work to different cities. My focus and passion are in creating bold, clean, and expressive cartoon-inspired tattoos from classic shows like Kids Next Door, Billy & Mandy, and The Powerpuff Girls to anime and pop culture pieces. I love bringing nostalgic characters to life with my own twist, making them vibrant and timeless on skin.
What I’m most proud of is the way I connect with clients many people come to me not just for a tattoo, but for something that represents a part of their childhood or personality. Being able to capture that feeling in a permanent piece of art means a lot to me.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend fun, playful subject matter with solid fundamentals bold linework, strong color saturation, and attention to detail so the tattoo looks just as good years later as it does the day it’s done. I strive to make every piece a statement, whether it’s a small design or a full sleeve.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about Atlanta is the energy you get that mix of southern hospitality with a big city vibe. And of course, the hot wings. There’s always something going on, whether it’s food, music, sports, or just the culture that makes ATL feel different from anywhere else. I also love how diverse the city is; you can meet people from all walks of life here.
What I like least is definitely the traffic. Getting across town can feel like a mission, especially during rush hour. And with how spread out the city is, you really have to plan your moves ahead of time.
