Daily Inspiration: Meet April Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Jones.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my photography journey in California in 2009 with nothing more than a Nokia flip phone camera. At the time, I was just having fun capturing moments and experimenting with images. I began taking profile photos for people on MySpace and doing small shoots for free just to practice and build my skills. As people started seeing my work, word began to spread. That early passion eventually grew into an interest in fashion photography, where I started collaborating with makeup artists, models, and local designers — and from there, my photography business naturally began to grow.
Over the years, I built a strong clientele and was honored to receive several awards for my work. In 2014, I relocated to Georgia, where I had to rebuild my career and passion from the ground up in a place where no one knew me. It was a challenge, but it pushed me to work even harder and continue growing as a photographer.
Through consistency and dedication, I was able to grow my brand again and have since been honored to win Best of Gwinnett five years in a row.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been many challenges along the way. One of the biggest was relocating from Sacramento, California to Georgia in 2014. I had built a name and clientele for myself in California, but when I moved, no one knew who I was, and I had to start completely from the ground up. That was very discouraging at times, and there were many moments where I felt like giving up.

At the same time, I was balancing life as a wife and raising my children while trying to grow my business. The journey has had many ups and downs, including losing my photography studio after a traumatic experience in 2017. The road has definitely been rocky, but those challenges strengthened my resilience and pushed me to keep going and continue pursuing my passion for photography.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is centered around creative portrait and fashion-inspired photography. Fashion photography has always been my true passion because I love the process of creating a full look and bringing a vision to life. In the past, I even offered packages where I would help style the wardrobe and include a professional makeup artist so clients could experience a full transformation. It was such a fun and creative process, and it’s something I’m definitely considering reintroducing in the future.

Right now, my most popular sessions are birthday shoots where I create a custom birthday scene for my clients. I love designing a setup that celebrates the moment and allows people to feel confident, glamorous, and celebrated.

What sets me apart is my creative direction and the way I help clients feel comfortable in front of the camera. I don’t just take photos, I help create an experience. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients over the years and the fact that many people continue to trust me to capture their important milestones. My goal has always been to make people feel seen, confident, and beautiful through my work.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My beautiful daughter has also played a huge role in my journey as a photographer. Over the years, she’s modeled for me countless times and has helped push my creativity in so many ways. She often comes with her own concepts and ideas, which has challenged me to grow and try new things behind the camera. Even though she can sometimes be my toughest client, she’s also always been one of my biggest cheerleaders. Having her support and creative input over the years has truly helped me continue improving and evolving in my craft.
