Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashely Sutton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashely Sutton

Hi Ashely, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a native Atlantan, born in the heart of the city but raised on the South Side. After graduating high school, I attended Spelman College in Atlanta. My senior year was particularly challenging when my father passed away unexpectedly. I definitely was a daddy’s girl, and losing him was a profound blow. His passing was a wake-up call for me, making me realize the importance of health and the need for a lifestyle change. I didn’t want his legacy to be one of loss; instead, I wanted to honor him by taking charge of my own health.

This journey led me to be a cast member on the show “1000-Lb Best Friends” on TLC, alongside three of my best friends, which has now aired three seasons and opened incredible doors for me. Through the show, I found a supportive community and the opportunity to inspire others on their wellness journeys. I’ve had the chance to share my story on platforms like the Tamron Hall Show, RightThisMinute, and various podcasts, as well as serving as a panelist and speaker at multiple conferences.

As I continue my health journey, there’s nothing that can stop me as I evolve into places I never saw myself—as a public speaker, print model, influencer, podcaster, philanthropist, and advocate for a healthy lifestyle. I strive to live life to the fullest, balancing my dreams and purpose along with my passion for wellness and inspiring others on this journey! This is just the beginning for me, and I know that the change I desire to see must first begin with me! It’s only “UP” from here!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth AT ALL! My dad often reminded me that I had three strikes against me: being black, a woman, and overweight. He shared those thoughts from his own experiences with racism, hoping to prepare me for the challenges ahead. After losing him when I was 22, I had to rediscover my purpose. I always aimed to honor my parents by working hard and striving to be seen and heard. Even now, being on a TV show, I still face obstacles as a woman of color. The key lesson from my parents is to give my all, even if l’m not recognized. I continue to push through these barriers, hoping my best will be enough to break through and make an impact.
