Today we’d like to introduce you to Atlanta Graduates
Hi Atlanta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since 2006, the Atlanta Graduates have been singing popular a cappella music all across the southeast.
Since its inception, The Atlanta Graduates has performed at numerous prestigious events, including for Oakhurst and Virginia Highlands Porchfest, the Atlanta Falcons, and even a performance at The White House. The group was originally formed by Margot Adler, Retta Sola, Joe Martinez, and Brooks Smith, all former members of Wake Forest University’s Innuendo, because they missed a cappella singing and the camaraderie of their college group.
Known for their versatility, The Graduates covers a wide range of genres from modern pop, classic rock, country, contemporary rock, R&B, and soul.
Their first album, Adult Education, was released in 2016 and can be found on iTunes and Spotify. The Graduates tour Atlanta performing at a variety of events throughout the year, and perform specifically for fans at their annual fall concert.
While the group enjoys a vibrant and close-knit community, they maintain a professional standard of excellence in all their performances. Through multiple music directors and a rotating, expanding cast of members, The Graduates have remained committed to their founders’ vision: delivering stellar all-vocal performances with passion and precision.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As many other people and organizations, Covid was a big hit for us. It was tough trying to navigate being able to form while prioritizing everyone’s safety. We were still able to survive the pandemic through virtual get togethers, creating music in makeshift home studios and editing them together, and just creating an online community for us to all bond together through. Even though we weren’t there physically together, we were still as close as ever. We were really able to start hitting the ground running in 2022, which has led us to larger gigs such as singing the star spangled banner for the Atlanta Falcons and performing our holiday set at the White House. We can’t wait to see what these next few years bring us!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our acapella group specializes in creating unforgettable musical experiences for weddings, corporate events, festivals, and more. With a diverse repertoire and exceptional harmonies, we bring a touch of elegance and fun to any occasion! Our catalog is always evolving and touches multiple different genres, whether you are into R&B, Pop, Rock, really anything, we have something for you!
What makes you happy?
What makes us happy is seeing the smiling faces of the crowd during performances. Whether it’s a child smiling and giggling with happiness trying to figure out how we’re making these fun noises, or having people get up from their chairs dancing the night away, that is what makes us happy. We like to spread happiness and joy to our community.
