Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Godfrey.
Hi Brandon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My names Brandon Godfrey an actor,singer, songwriter,independent artist, and teacher originally from Burlington NC. I started singing at an early age after going with my mom to her gospel concerts where she traveled with her singing group. From elementary to high school i performed in a lot of plays and musicals and decided to go to NC A&T State University to study theatre with a concentration in acting. My Junior year of college I did my first professional show at the historic Barn Dinner Theater in Greensboro ,NC. I started traveling a lot in the US doing shows and children’s theatre eventually landing my biggest gig ever on the Broadway international tour of Sister Act The Musical playing one of the leads (Curtis Jackson) touring all of Asia for over a year. Later I returned back to the states and started back traveling and performing til I landed the gig that made me a Las Vegas Entertainer performing on The Vegas strip in a Motown show for 5 years. Which became the number one show in Vegas on TripAdvisor. Vegas shut down bc of covid and I had to find a way to still be creative so i started writing music and released my first album called Vision under my artist name BL. And also had a covid wedding. It was then that I also wanted to connect back with my acting roots so I ended up auditioning for a movie called Mistress For Hire and connected with the amazing producer/director couple Bobby and Renee Peoples of The Peoples Network who had at the time just moved to Vegas from Atlanta. After filming with them I knew that it was time to switch gears from the stage to the screen. I started auditioning and getting roles on series such as Tyler Perry’s Beauty In Black ,Sistas, and the Paramount tv series Mayor of Kingstown. It wasn’t until I booked my first lead role in a movie that I really started feeling like I could really do this. The movie was called Blood Pact and my role was Jason. When the movie came out it was an instant success staying on the Most Popular list on Tubi for 3 months straight and getting rave reviews on TikTok and Facebook. Since then I released my 2nd album Love Therapy where 3 of the singles went Gold and Silver certified. And. Have been used in several films. I’ve also been in 11 movies and counting. And on the side I’m a substitute one on one teacher for kids with learning disabilities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course with any entertainment you are gonna get a lot of nos before you get one yes. I auditioned a lot got told no a lot. During Covid I had a bad reaction to the booster shot which caused me to lose a little mobility in my right leg. So imagine being a dancer and actor and entertainer and u can barely use your right leg. But I never made excuses I fought through it. Depended on God, muscle memory ,and pure adrenaline to get through shows or just walking on set. I also loss my little brother, an aunt, my grandmother and my dad during this journey. But every time I hit a stage or hit the screen I try my best to make them proud
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an actor/singer/songwriter/ independent artist/teacher. So if you ask me what i specialize in I would tell you entertainment. I’m known for singing and dancing on stages nationally and internationally. I’m also the artist BL with 3 gold and silver records. I’m also that actor in those movies on Tubi. But I’m also that teacher who works one on one with elementary students with Learning Disabilities. If I’m most proud of anything it’s the fact that no matter what I do I put God first. He’s my source my strength and without him I’m nothing.
What does success mean to you?
Success in not how much you accomplish but how you enhance others with what you accomplish..
