Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Suggs.
Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Live life half price gives is a non-profit, we focus on the homeless population, families living in extended stays and children. We started off as a blog that wanted to help families find things to do at affordable prices then we wanted to make a deeper impact in the community. So we started our nonprofit. We started off feeding the homeless downtown to working with families and extended stays. But we also wanted to touch the lives of young children so we started doing our annual book bag drive giveaway and our annual toy giveaway. We started in the beginning was just giving away 25 book bags now we’re giving away 300 book bags. We started off only blessing 25 kids with toys now, we give over 300 kids toys a year. With the help of the community, we have been able to grow and give back more but we’re not finished we want to hit our next milestone of 500 kids.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning stages, you are the only one with the vision so it’s hard to receive help until things are up and running. So I had to make up in my mind that this is what I truly wanted to do and was willing to do it even if I was by myself. So some of the struggles I ran into where lack of resources, lack of volunteers but as I continue to work through the struggles things started to work out. We are definitely not where we want to be but grateful we’re not where we once was.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a non-profit and consider ourselves community activists helping those in need and encouraging those who are down. We specialize in creating hope and letting those that feel alone that they are loved. One of our proudest moments are non-profit received humanitarian of the year from another organization’s charity ball. I think the thing that sets our nonprofit away from others is we create an atmosphere that is fun not only for the people we serve before those that volunteer with us. Most of our volunteers are like family.
