Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Boggs.
Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a natural light, lifestyle photographer based in Hall Co., Georgia, serving the Northeast GA area. I focus on family, couples, maternity, & newborn photography. I am a wife and mom turned photographer, mostly because of the ‘mom’ part. Soon after having my own sons, I realized my love for capturing life on camera. I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have two rambunctious, brave, loving little boys– and another on the way! By day, I teach 8th graders proper English and grammar (quite a task!), and I just finished my Educational Specialists degree in Secondary English Education. In my downtime (moments few and far between), I love reading thrillers, DIY-ing, and traveling with my family.
My husband, watching me photograph our boys for years, really encouraged me to turn my hobby into a business. After some hesitation and self-doubt (that we all have, right?), I started a photography Facebook page and advertised my services in my local neighborhood. I booked my first client, a senior photo session, and it exploded from there, primarily through word-of-mouth and social media. It’s been thrilling, stressful, challenging, but most of all, overwhelmingly fulfilling.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overcoming my initial hesitation was the biggest struggle I’ve experienced. I have always loved photography- learning more about lighting and posing and finding/developing my own style. My own children made the perfect subjects because they were always immediately available.
In September of 2020, I bought a really nice, professional camera to take pictures of my boys and learn more about the photo editing process. After editing the first set of photos taken with my new camera, my husband asked why I had never considered professional photography. To be honest, it was something I had considered before, but my own self-doubt always kept me from pursuing it further. Who would really pay me to take pictures of them? Who would trust me to capture their really important moments? How would I balance photography with my full-time job of teaching and being a mom?
After a few weeks of further encouragement on his part and feeling more confident with each photo I took on my new camera, I finally relented to my husband, who told me to “just give it until the end of the year.”
Little did I know that between October and December of 2020, I would have multiple photo shoots each weekend and clients booking into 2021. It’s been a complete whirlwind ever since I took the chance to try something new– and I’m so incredibly thankful that I did!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a self-taught photographer with a passion for inspired places, beautiful light, simple moments, and fresh faces. I use natural light and beautiful, natural outdoor locations to provide the perfect backdrop for my photo sessions. I absolutely love sunlight and the beauty it adds to images.
I am a big believer in the beauty of unplanned moments and the simplicity of lifestyle photography. As someone who also loves having photos taken of my own family, I sometimes feel stiff when in front of the camera. I never want my clients to feel awkward during our shoot. During my sessions, I focus on storytelling through photography, and my photo sessions are a mix between unposed and effortless with a sprinkle of crafted moments. This balance allows me to capture a variety of images that my clients will fall in love with. I thrive off of the essence of the moment and the warmth of others, & I bounce that energy right back to my clients.
My ultimate goal is to provide a relaxed, special photography experience and resulting photographs that my clients truly adore.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My clients! Without them, I wouldn’t have a business.
It is so incredibly important to me that my clients love their photographs. When they open their gallery, I want them to be wow-ed by every photo they see and fall in love with them. I want them to see their beautiful family, a special moment in time, captured for them to remember forever. I want them to want to decorate their home with the pictures, share them with friends and family, post them online for all to see. I want them to come back and let me photograph the important moments for their family for years to come!
I never dreamed a year and a half ago when I started my photography that my first full year would be everything it is today. None of it, not a single moment, would be possible without the amazing families, kiddos, couples, & littles who trust me to capture such important moments + milestones.
