Today we’d like to introduce you to Camilo Pineda
Hi Camilo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I have memory always had a lot of interest in drawing, it was one of the things that most aroused my curiosity from a young age. At 13 years old, because of hip hop music and other events I know graffiti, I think it was a love at first sight, and between curiosity and wanting to learn more started this path.
Many years have passed and I can only be grateful for having kept me in time, I thank that child/teenager to never stop insisting so today, I am what I am because of that decision to never give up.
I studied architecture and this was probably the biggest trigger in my artist career, giving me a focus and direction on what I wanted to represent and show the world. Through everything I learned in my profession, it has forged my identity and made me able to do incredible things.
I could highlight my participation in various muralism events in my country, Colombia. In turn had the opportunity to participate in different collective exhibitions with various galleries and participate in important shows internationally as Spectrum Miami 2023 and ArtWynwood Miami 2024.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Really the art path is a 100% mental journey, where your head can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Learning to balance your emotions and feelings are possibly the biggest challenges, the game will always be a constant challenge between who you want to be and your constancy and discipline.
Having a clear vision of the goal helps you to stay on track and keep doing the things you have to do every day. For me, one of the most remarkable things is how the path brings out the best or worst in you, subjecting you to complex situations, but ultimately these are the ones that shape your character and create a strong mindset for the future, give you maturity and tools to face the road with another mindset.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I express my world through abstraction and geometry, inspiration can come from many places, but really my greatest sources of inspiration come from architecture and nature, I try to recreate situations that arise in my head and I try to represent them through geometries and forms that I find recurring in these two great sources of inspiration.
If today I feel that my mood is that of two personalities debating each other, I try to represent that in geometric elements that can have that visual narrative for the viewer. It is true that by not making a figurative style, the work lends itself to different interpretations, but this is what I find most interesting and funny because it really generates a dialogue and reflection between the work and the viewer. I think that there is something very important generated and it is that moment in which the observer immerses himself in your world, to interpret what he perceives from his own.
On the other hand, I think there are many better artists than me, artists that I admire. So I just want to show people that they understand what I do and they like my work, that with discipline and a lot of passion you can achieve amazing things, That’s really the message I want to get across, especially to my daughter and the people who are on this road fighting day by day.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think I just learned it, and that is: Learn to see everything with good eyes.
Basically it is that nothing happens by chance, the place where you are, the situation you face at the moment is the consequence of the decisions you made previously. You have to learn to see all the situations in the best possible way, that will help you to make you also 100% responsible for you.
