Hi CaMya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 lockdown, I embarked on my photography journey. What began as a simple hobby quickly evolved into a passion.
I would capture captivating images using unused sheets as backdrops and incorporating themed outfits. Armed with my iPhone 8 Plus, I would enhance these photos using Lightroom and Photoshop. As I shared my work on social media, my friends and families began recognizing my talent. However, Gayna Weeks, a close friend of my mother, played a pivotal role in launching my photography business. She entrusted me with capturing her daughter’s birthday photoshoot, marking the first official booking for Shoots With Mya.
Eager to enhance my skills and equipped with my first camera, I immersed myself in photography wholeheartedly. Everywhere I went, I carried my camera, embracing the joy and excitement it brought me. It is worth mentioning that my inclination towards the arts has always been present, making the creative aspect of photography particularly appealing.
Navigating through the challenges of my senior year in 2021, I faced the pressures of academic success, college planning, and the profound impact of the pandemic. Amidst it all, I found solace in my craft, pouring my heart and emotions into my photography. This period was a turning point, igniting my creativity to new heights. Through numerous captivating shoots, I had the opportunity to showcase my artistic vision and gain valuable experience as a young entrepreneur.
Over the years, life has pulled me in various directions, subject to its unpredictable fluctuations. However, my photography business has remained a constant force in my life. While occasional breaks were necessary to prioritize my education and financial responsibilities, photography always returned to me. Whether it was a spontaneous booking that reignited my love and passion or the creative winds nudging me towards crafting stunning sets with my niece as a model, photography has consistently held a special place in my heart.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My photography journey has not been the smoothest, but it has been the most rewarding. Most of my struggles have stemmed from the financial aspect of running a photography business and managing my time effectively. The cost of purchasing reliable and useful gear can be quite expensive. Cameras alone can cost $400, and some lenses for these cameras can reach as high as $2000.
Additionally, I have faced the ongoing challenge of determining my worth and setting appropriate service prices. Since I do not have a studio, I have hesitated to charge over $200 for my sessions. However, the time and energy I invest in setting up my shoots and editing the final images is invaluable.
As a young entrepreneur, I am juggling college classes and working as a full-time nanny to cover my living expenses. This presents a significant challenge as I strive to divide my time efficiently while finding fulfillment in each day’s accomplishments.

As a professional portrait photographer, I excel in creating intricate and stunning sets that bring my clients’ visions to life. I am most proud of my creativity, unwavering determination, and drive to continually develop my skills. While I lack a formal educational background, I have honed my craft through self-study and practical experience, utilizing resources such as YouTube University.
My ability to establish a genuine and personalized experience for each client distinguishes me from other photographers. I prioritize every detail, ensuring that no aspect goes unnoticed, resulting in exceptional photographs that capture precious moments in time. With a deep-rooted passion for photography, I am committed to providing an unparalleled service that exceeds expectations and leaves a lasting impression.

I find immense joy in the act of creation.
When I engage in the process of bringing an idea to life, I am not only building something tangible, but I am also cultivating a deep sense of satisfaction and excitement. Witnessing my creation take shape and come to life is an awe-inspiring experience that fills me with inexplicable happiness.
