Daily Inspiration: Meet Candace Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Robinson.

Candace Robinson

Hi Candace, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
From learning to play the piano at the age of five to writing my first song, I’ve continued to evolve into one of the leading writers of music in the industry. Hailing out of Atlanta, GA, my persistence, hard work, and humbleness have landed me various opportunities and placements with some of the greats in the industry. From performing with country great Lee Greenwood to obtaining placements with Power, Grey’s Anatomy, Dance Moms, Nashville, Timberland, Disney, Nickelodeon, and more…

About 10+ years ago, I started a company called THE AUDIO PLUGZ. The Audio Plugz is a highly sought-after full-scale music supervision and music licensing company based in Kennesaw, GA. The Audio Plugz has secured a numerous amount of major and indie TV/Film/Advertisement placements such as “Gone” out on Netflix, “Whole Foods,” “Lacoste,” and “Wendy’s” in the USA as well as “Pocky” and “Korean BBQ” Internationally. Kandi is currently music supervising a feature film, a documentary, and video game.

About 9 years prior to starting The Audio Plugz, I was a part of a songwriting team called Ink World Music for a few years. It consisted of myself and 3 others. Within this team, I really learned a lot about the business, and I honed in on my songwriting as well as my audio engineering skills. We created a lot of songs, and we got a slew of TV/Film placements together. Crazy thing, though, is that none of them lived in Georgia. They all were located in various places within the USA. And honestly, each member played an important part of my growth, I probably wouldn’t be as far as I am now.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! Over the years, I’ve heard so many nos vs yeses that it became severely depressing, and there were many times that I just wanted to give up. It has also been very discouraging as a female in the industry as well. In a male-dominated industry, I was often looked over for gigs or opportunities/placements as if I wasn’t good enough, or they claimed that I didn’t know enough, tho I was highly qualified. I also know the phrase “starving artist” all too well…even though I wasn’t a performing artist when I was just getting seasoned, I went through a period of being homeless and living in studios. So, trust when I say this definitely isn’t the industry for you if you are weak.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The Audio Plugz is a freelance music supervision, music clearance, and sync licensing company owned by songwriter, composer, and music business professional Candace “Kandi” Robinson.

Here at The Audio Plugz, we get hired from all over the world to find/curate the perfect track, song, voice (voiceover), or sound design for film, TV, advertising, trailers, soundtracks, video games, and other projects. We help other music supervisors find what they need for their projects as well. Recently, we’ve also been working with the youth of Georgia who are interested in learning the music business, whether they’re seeking to be creative or on the business side.

We are known for our quick turnarounds, our expertise, and humble spirits. We listen to what our clients want, and we get it done!

We are also working with the youth of Georgia

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I do want to give credit to all the people that have helped me along the way, whether it was free studio time, gas money, food to eat, a place to stay, believing in me, and even the numerous amounts of honest advice that was given.
