Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Waters.
Hi Candace, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in church and I am a PK kid. As a kid, my mother put me in a ton of art classes. I was in the orchestra, band, and chorus. I took ballet, gymnastics and acting. As I got older I fell in love with the arts and knew that I had a gift. I wanted to be on television so I attended Winston Salem State University and majored in Mass Comm. I wanted to work for CNN and had an internship that fell through. So after graduation, I changed career paths and started working in Higher Ed. I would talk about my life on social and people kept telling me I needed a YouTube channel. In 2017 I listened and launched my channel. The channel was created for me to chat about topics, give inspiration and just Vlog my life. After I started my channel this app called TikTok came out and I took my talents to TikTok and the videos just kind of took off from there. I created faith and inspirational videos about the things I was going through in my own life. I knew that there were others going through what I was going through and we all needed hope.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish! There has been so many struggles for me. My first struggle was getting over fear. I needed to be transparent but I also didn’t want strangers in my business. Like what would they think of me?
My second struggle was actually stay consistent and creating the content. Sometimes it can become overwhelming like you’re doing what you’re called to do but no one is watching… it can defeat you.
My third struggle would be remaining authentic to who God made me to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create inspirational content. I think I most proud of several of my videos going viral and given the opportunity to speak on iheart radio about it. I’ve also been given the opportunity to fly out to one of the biggest churches in the USA to Vlog. Recently Jennifer Hudson shared my video and thanked me for using my gift. Daymond John also reposted my video and thanked me for my encouragement.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My only advice is to start. You don’t need all the conditions to be right. Just create and the people will find you, the views will show up. The only thing I wish is that I would have started creating earlier.
