Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy West.
Hi Candy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Dallas TX., I started singing at the age of 3 in my grandfather’s church in the heart of West Dallas. I started my professional career in music with Kirk Franklin and God’s property after the release Stomp. From there, I went on to sing with Kirk Franklin full-time as a background singer and contributor to the Kirk Franklin sound. The journey evolved as I recorded and traveled with artists across gospel and secular genres. The journey shifted as I began leading worship and serving in leadership in church ministries. Some of my most notable moments were held at The Potter’s House of Dallas. Years later, I moved to Huntsville for a ministry position, and my role evolved from a Pastor of Worship to Lead Pastor, launching my own ministry Convergence Worship Center in Huntsville.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have certainly encountered a myriad of challenges, from trying to find my way as a singer and an artist to standing tall in my calling to pastor and lead. To add to the challenge, has been being a single woman in a Bible Belt state and navigating some of the opposition that presents itself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have close to 30 years of music industry and ministry leadership experience combined. I have been a part of over 50 albums, including my 1st solo project, Candy West Live. I’m an itinerant artist and speaker. I have 2 active businesses. I am a certified life coach with a mission to help people find and pursue their purpose.
I am most proud of the work I get to do for God’s kingdom. What sets me apart is my diversity. I’ve been given a special grace to be able to go into any environment and make an impact.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity of Atlanta. It feels like home, just with unusual traffic. I enjoy the culture, food, and shopping the city has to offer. What I dislike is the unusual traffic.
