Daily Inspiration: Meet Carlos Bates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Bates.

Hi Carlos, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a producer first and transitioned into being a DJ. A friend of mine was running a club and “RETIRED” from DJing and told me I needed to learn. After about 3 years of him telling me to learn I bought a beginner controller and then evolved to turntables. I wish I would’ve started with the turntables first. That was 10 years ago now.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has has ben a rollercoaster that has went up more than it has wen down. The biggest bump/hurdle was the pandemic. I do more private events like weddings and parties. So having to make up all the events was very tough. I think out of all the events that booked I only couldn’t make up 1 because of scheduling and the other jut canceled all together.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I actually DJ. I blend. I mix. I watch the crowd. I engage with the crowd. I get to show my personality while showing the crowd, (if it’s a wedding) the personality of the couple that booked me. Even though I get to do my thing, I still don’t make it about me. I want people to have that feeling of not wanting to leave and tell everybody about the great time that they had. I want every event to be the best event.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was just always goofy, nerdy kid and a music lover. Loved shoes but couldn’t afford them until I got a job. I would save my lunch money just to buy cds every Tuesday. Old school, I know. Loved hooping but I just had to always have music. Which is how I got into making music.
