Daily Inspiration: Meet Carlous Mack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlous Mack.

Hi Carlous, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ironically, my story began the day I was born back in September of 1986, the very same day I lost my mother (Dedra Mack) due to a blood pressure condition called preeclampsia while giving birth to me. Needless to say, my grandmother (Judy Mack) and countless other friends and family members raised me to be the man I am today, hardworking, determine, creative and sometimes a bit stubborn at best. Everything I do, create and envision is all in the name of my mother. I graduated from Troy University in the fall of 2011 where I attained my degree in Graphic Design/Business Admin where I had a chance to perfect my craft. The artistic abilities I have today are all blessings/gifts passed down from my mother to me and until the end of time, I will do my best to honor her name through my art, as well as through fashion which I named my clothing line after; Macdelor (Dedra Delores Mack).

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life hasn’t been the smoothest, but it hasn’t been the hardest either. I struggle with finding my purpose in life, the area in which I fit in and can be the most productive and useful. With that being said, I also struggle with the fact that the people I love the most (mom, grandmother) are no longer her to see me flourish. I won’t to leave a legacy, something that’s going to stand the test of time long after I am gone, rather that’s with my art or my fashion (Macdelor).

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Throughout my life, I always had this gift to just create. It started off has a hobby before I learned that the artistic abilities I had, came from my mother. I used to draw random people, cars and other objects when I was bored. Fast forward a few a decade is where I really began to learn and explore different ways to create at Troy University where I majored in Graphic Design. Learning color theory, sketching as well as adobe creative suites, I eventually started making logos, flyers and business cards as well as painting clothes, shoes and canvases which led to bigger projects. I’m not proud of a certain aspect but more so proud of the fact that I’m staying true to myself, staying consistent to my dreams and goals no matter how long it takes me to get to where I want to be.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I could say I was a regular kid for the most part, my grandmother always made sure I had and never went without anything I wanted or needed regardless of her financial situation. I was active in sports from 3rd grade until 12th (football, track, basketball) I was never the kid that wanted to be like, dress like or act like someone else, I always stayed in my own lane rather that was the way I dressed or the way I created things. Life interests me from the smallest to the biggest things. I’m down to earth and nonchalant, I don’t get too high or too low. I vibe and go with the flow (even keeled).
