Daily Inspiration: Meet Cassandra Moten

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Moten.

Cassandra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Cassandra, also known as Chyna. I’m from Selma, Alabama. Born and raised in a small town as in most places there really wasn’t much to do. Growing up I never lacked anything, but as I got older, I realized the sacrifices my mom had to make. My mom really inspired me to want to be an entrepreneur. I watched her volunteer to work so that she could learn the business to start her own. So, she was definitely my motivator as well as my kids. My two beautiful kids are both in college and doing really well. I’m very proud of them.

I wanted to go to college and get a degree, so that’s what I did. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Leadership & Management. Over the years, I’ve done quite a few things in business from owning a Soul Food Restaurant, a Behavioral Healthcare Company, STR Property Management to my current Tax Company. D& D Tax Services, with years of experience in the tax industry I find joy in helping my clients with tax planning and preparation. My goal for D&D Tax Services is to expand to each state. Bringing other tax preparers on as partners is my overall goal. I have other future plans to get more into real estate development. That is my overall real estate goal.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I had my first child at 19. I was in school, trying to work and a new parent. It was really hard. I had an unfortunate tragedy, my sister got sick and died of cancer. It was hard. My sister lived out of the state and I had to miss school to go see her and attend her funeral. I relayed this to my instructors, unfortunately, all but one instructor dropped me. So, I failed that semester and was placed on academic probation. I really was disappointed so, I just dropped out of school.

I didn’t get back in school until about five years later. I was blessed to get a job at a college that allowed me to start back to school. I didn’t stop, I buckled down, focused and got my undergrad, then my Masters.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I am an employee as well as Entrepreneur. I currently own D&D Tax Services, Stokes Management & Solutions (a Virtual Office/Virtual Address Business). I also own DS Xpress Trucking and True Value Property Inspections.

I’m known for business a very savvy businesswoman/business coach.

I am most proud of my children. They both are awesome children. My oldest is my son, who is currently in Medical School and my daughter is a sophomore in undergrad, her goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner. So, they are my reasons for being proud.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Family. My parents has always been there to support and encourage me. I know that has contributed to my success.
