Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanelle McMillan.
Hi Chanelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I purchased my camera in January of 2020 but it took me all the way until August to finally pick it up and start my journey. I started asking coworkers & friends to photograph them. After 3-4 photoshoots and finding a ton of new artists on Instagram, I began to find out what I liked and didn’t like. From there, I was able to start to form an idea on the way I wanted to represent myself as a photographer and overall artist
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most, if not all artists have moments of dealing with imposter syndrome, losing our creative spark for months at a time, lack of support from the people we love the most. Also in a field like this, you are likely to have experiences where people attempt to take advantage of you as an artist in different ways. But through it all we push through the for love and passion for our craft.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I grow in my artistry, I put on different hats. I go about my work first and foremost with the view of being a storyteller. Stories are told in many different ways. With words in a book, poetry, songs, instruments, motion pictures, and my poison of choice, photographs. I ask myself what story I want to illustrate. What message do I want to convey? What feeling am I trying to transmit? These questions are a part of every part of the process, the creative direction, the way I compose the frame of each photograph, and the style in which I edit them.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
