Today we’d like to introduce you to Chengcheng Zhao.
Hi Chengcheng, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in China, near an archaeology museum, often spending much of my childhood wandering alone there. I found myself fascinated by those artifacts whispering tales of times long past, sparking my first dream job of becoming an archaeologist.
Later, I went to art school here in the US, primarily focusing on creating large-scale sculptures.
After college, I moved to New York and worked as an experienced designer, all the while still trying to find ways to continue making sculptures. However, it was challenging to locate studios or facilities that offered the space and tools I needed to create sculptures the way I used to. That’s when I discovered small metals, and I fell in love with it immediately. It became the perfect medium, seamlessly tying together my childhood passion for the stories embedded in objects and my love for sculptures.
This intimate medium connects the artist with the audience, and over time, they co-create the object together. That’s the inspiration for me to start creating this brand.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
– Learning how to start a small business
– Finding the right audience
– Marketing as a small business owner
– Balancing my job while figuring out the brand
– Budgeting
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For my day job, I work as an experienced designer, specializing in building digital products and experiences that generate value for both businesses and customers. My day-to-day spans from prototyping to usability testing, encompassing visual design and the creation of user flows behind products.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think with social media finding a mentor today is much easier. Definitely need to put yourself out there and use your social media, such as your Instagram, as your online portfolio. Don’t be shy to share your work and connect.
