Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherrie McRae.
Hi Cherrie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi There! I’m Cherrie “Cher” McRae, professional actor and creative. My initiation and active involvement in acting, arts and entertainment began roughly 2001 where I was cast in a role on an Urban Late Night Drama Series. Filming took place in Miami, Fl. (my hometown). Although a Business Major in College, a single elective course in Theatre Arts peaked my interests and so I began my pursuit of the career. Post Grad, I set entertainment to the side and jumped in the Corporate arena fulltime. My trajectory out of the workforce was a slow but intentional one. I subtly re-entered the industry in 2011 doing a slew of background work (tv/movies), hosting/emceeing, modeling (print) while also working as a Radio personality at, ‘Crunk for Christ’ Radio (a FM dial). My first principal role, post-hiatus, was a horror film, entitled, “Jimmy Did You Get One” which appeared in select theatres. 60+ TV/Film screen credits later, I am still just as focused, passionate and driven in my career as a professional actor as I were more than a decade ago.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is my belief that no career path is a smooth one, but arts and entertainment definitely has intense pressure-points. I faced a lot of the challenges earlier in my career. I was a notorious people pleaser. I made reckless decisions, calling them smart risks, mismanaged non-negotiables and lacked fortitude. I put my goals in a microwave expecting rapid results. I’d shun guidance, because, well, I knew it all! LOL. There’s more but I think you get the idea. I could have avoided so many hiccups if I’d put into practice then, what I know now. However, I am grateful for all the learning curves and left turns.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a union talent. A professional actor, storyteller, creativepreneur (creative entrepreneur). I specialize in on-camera acting for Studio as well as Independent Films, Network Television and Theatre/On-Stage Performance(s).
I am most proud of the legacy I’m building and it’s framework. I’ve been in the industry well over a decade working full-time in this field. Many of fellow artists and actors can attest, it takes girth, grit, strategy, likability, a wild imagination, stamina and a strong will to reap success and survive this industry.
What sets me apart? An authentic persuasive spirit I have. When others run low on fuel and fire in pursuit of their dreams, Reminding them, “You didn’t come this far just to come this far!” Reassuring them, “You owe it to yourself,” to finish what you started. Encouraging them, The bumpy road will level out; the answers will become more clear.
How do you think about luck?
Oh I am not one to name luck, luck. I am a firm believer that the upgrades and promotions that have occurred in my life have all specifically been marked for me. Nothing short of Universal law and Divine alignments. My bloodline is saturated with high valued achievements! I’ve been chosen for this journey and am in it for all the long haul. I attribute my successes, past, present and future, not to luck, instead God’s grace and generosity.
