Today we’d like to introduce you to Creasia Tate.
Hi Creasia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was working at a security company & at the time this was like my 3rd job that month. I hated every job!! But one day, my mom decided to drop me off to work because it was freezing cold and I didn’t have enough money to catch Marta that day. We ended up stopping at a family dollar so I could get some work snacks and I happened to pass by some little acrylic kit and it caught my attention. Why?! I have no idea because before this day, I had absolutely no interest for nails, lol. Fast forward a couple of days later, I got caught playing with the acrylic kit and of course my supervisor let me go but at that moment, I decided that I was going to really teach myself how to do nails & how to perfect my craft using basic knowledge I knew and YouTube. For me doing nails came natural to me within my first year, I was seeing amazing progress. I literally started out from pinching pennies to buy acrylic necessities and having all of 6 acrylic colors, a single brush that I used for my first 3/4 months. I found creative ways to market myself without having to pay someone hundreds of dollars. Stayed up late nights doing practice sets on myself. My niece was literally my go to test dummy for anything I wanted to try or even just for practice and I had / friends that believed in me who supported even when I was trash. They still booked and shared my post with no hesitation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all! One of my biggest struggles starting out was being able to network and branch out to introduce who I am and what I have to offer. People in Atlanta support whatever and whoever they feel is popular at the time whether the service or item is good or bad. I consider myself to be in that grey area of what’s popular. I’m not known but I’m not some lame either. I face a battle it seems like everyday with am I doing enough, are my sets good enough, do others recognize my work and growth, and WHY HAVEN’T I PIVOTED the way I feel I should’ve by now. It’s been months where I’ve only had maybe 3-4clients books with me which left me once again pinching pennies just for supplies. As an entrepreneur who is learning everything on their own with little to no guidance, I’ve faced a lot of roadblocks and slip ups that helped build who I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Self Taught Nail Technician so of course I specialize in nails specifically. I’m proud of my dedication and faith in my craft. I feel like what sets me apart from others is by any means necessary. I’m determined to succeed in what I do. I’m down to do anything that I know will get me to that next level. I sitting in my chair is literally like going to therapy for a lot of my clients. Being able to sit in my chair and know that I can relate to almost anything and understand and give solutions to almost any problem that my clients come across.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Instagram, there’s certain other nail techs that motivate me to invest more into the craft & they might not know it but seeing their work makes me stay on my A game to put extra money up to take courses to learn new nail hacks.
