Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Cummings. Them and their team share their story with us below:
The Men’s Department began with synergy: when two or more agents combine to create an effect greater than the sum of its parts. Darius J, Chris ‘Maxamillion’ Maxwell, and Armani Le Don came together discussing topics and found themselves coming across nuances and breaking barriers within their own thinking. As men coming from different walks of life they found their individual perspectives challenging cultural norms and standards that were currently at play. They decided that their pensive dialogue, full of insight, authenticity, vulnerability, and laughter, needed to be shared with the world. It didn’t take long for their goals to align, and from what started as side conversations amongst friends turned into a platform shared by brothers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
On the path to achieving greatness, you seldom come across a smooth path. Although Erwin McManus said that “greatness is not the product of ego, but of service.” We are blessed to have found ourselves as a group of men who have decided to put aside ego and put forth service to one another. It hasn’t always been smooth, but when life comes into play it never is. As married men, two with families, we find ourselves having to make sacrifices with our time and energy at different turns and making sure we accommodate each other as required. Through this, we have found a way to create valuable content that can beneficial not just to men but women as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The Men’s Department is a podcast collaborative of men embracing a healthy form of masculinity achieved through healing and building emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually, and relationally. We take different topics and plunge into discussion that can illuminate struggles, areas for growth, and deeper understanding. Dissimilar from normal male perspective focused podcasts, we do not talk down upon women and progressing a patriarchal narrative. Instead, we create a space to speak practically on manhood, the state and progression of, with a focus on accountability as we navigate modern society.
What are your plans for the future?
We are taking aim at being a premier podcast platform that has the ability to inspire, motivate, invoke growth, and broaden the understanding from the male perspective. We want to create content that can change people’s lives, help save marriages, and intrigue the ensnared mind and open it to a nuances, hidden, and forgotten aspects of manhood. So for us, it is full steam ahead as we look to expand our platform and offer valuable content that can apply to anyone who takes time to tune in.
