Daily Inspiration: Meet Demetrice Amos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetrice Amos.

Hi Demetrice, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
I am self-taught baker and have been baking for over 20 years. People use to ask me why won’t you open up your own bakery because you are so gift and talented. I replied I don’t think that’s my calling right now and I really don’t have the mindset to start a bakery. In 2020, I started working from home due to the pandemic so I had a lot of time on my hands. My husband and children convince me now it’s a perfect time to open up a bakery. I thought about it and said your right let me start up a bakery and see what happens.

After a month, the business starts taking off tremendously locally and out of state. It got to the point that I couldn’t focus on the business and work a corporate job as well so I made the decision to quit my corporate job so I will be able to run the business full-time. Since then, I have created cakes for actresses and artists in the Atlanta area. I have run successful businesses in the past, so when I had to make the decision to leave Corp America, it was no brainier. I encourage everyone to go after their dream if you don’t, you will never know what you could had accomplished. One more thing I would like to add Atlanta has a lot of cake artists who only specialize in custom cakes here at DemeCakes we want to cater to all audiences everyone can’t afford a 500.00 cake so we have basic decorated cakes that start at 50.00. We want everyone to be able to get that special cake for their special occasion. When our customers are happy, DemeCakes is happy.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It really has been a smooth ride and having support from your family always helps.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started daycare at the age of 23 for 13 years. Afterwards, I went to corporate America to work as an IT professional. I started as a network engineer and worked my way up to an IT Project Manager I worked in the IT industry for more than 16 years. I have been bless with multiple talents but my most skill talent is baking. I specialize in cakes, cupcakes, pies and cheesecakes. My customers stated that my cheesecakes are better than the cheesecake factory and one of my customers thought I was on cupcake wars because she said that the presentation of my cupcakes were incredible and the taste was out of sight. When you get those kinds of comments and reviews, you know that you are doing your job. I am known for my basic, custom and multi-color cakes. What makes me proud the most is that the Lord has blessed me with so many talents that I can use any of them to start a career with. What sets me apart from other bakers is the taste of my cakes. It’s like no other, some people have one cake that they can recommend to their customers. I can recommend all of my cakes because the taste of all of my cakes are phenomenal.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Yes, I think being a mentor and networking always helps you to get to we’re you want to go. Getting advice from other people is always a plus. The network has always help me in anything that I have done.
