Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Goodie.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After completing my military service, I attended film school, writing and producing student films, and gaining experience behind the camera. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Film Production and Master’s in Creative Writing. I then moved to Georgia, an ever-growing hub for the film industry. Where I was able to get several different jobs working on film sets, from smaller to large films, networking and working alongside great names in the film industry.
I started my film production company, Pure Luxury Films in 2016, while still in film school. I’ve written and produced a number of short films, commercials, music videos, and feature films. My true passion lies in the director’s chair where I can shape the overall creation and vision of the film.
Currently, I have multiple scripts I am developing, that delve into the crime, drama, and horror genre. I’ve also established partnerships with distribution companies for my completed films.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like they always say, the road to success is long and hard. My journey is no different. Taking on a film project by yourself whether it’s short or feature can be an arduous task. Some projects can take as little as one to two people to complete or it can take a team to get it done. When I started producing my own films, I learned that delegating is key and knowing where your strengths and weaknesses will get your best results. When developing my feature film Witnessed, I struggled with finding locations that matched my story, I also had struggles with casting, my lead was especially hard to find, due to the nature of the character. However, I was able to delegate and was assisted by the crew I put together, and was able to successfully get these jobs done. Funding was another huge obstacle that I had to deal with, as this was a self-produced project. I had to learn how to properly manage the funds available to me. In the end, the project was completed within the budget and the film was a success.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write, direct, and produce short and long-form content. My strength lies in directing, where I am able to create an overall vision through which the project is realized. As a director, I’m able to also draw out the dramatic side of actors to fit what I want in the character they portray. What I’m currently known for is my feature film Witnessed that is being released in 2023. This film was my first large-scale project being over 80 minutes in length. My other works consist of music short films, music videos, and commercials. I’ve worked on a number of larger movies and tv shows as a crew member in the Grip Department.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is measured by the completion of goals you have set for yourself. Having a number of things you want to achieve and working towards them. These goals can be little or big but every one you mark off as complete to me is success. Also when you’re able to give back to those that have helped you in any way on your journey, that alone is success. Sometimes it’s a feeling as well. While you may not have made it in the eyes of others but you feel great about something that has happened or you did, that’s success to me.
