Daily Inspiration: Meet Donna Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Morris.

Hi Donna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a certified Image Consultant; I’ve always had an eye for fashion and fell in love with the world of media and communications at a young age while attending a media program for youth. I later studied communications at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, earning my bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies. During my undergraduate journey, I worked for one of the top luxury retail stores, where I learned the importance of having a great brand image and fell in love with merchandising. Since then, I have worked in sales and marketing, with a track record of driving company results. As well as working with private clients on wardrobe styling and brand image consulting.

Entrepreneurship has always been a dream of mine. After several years of climbing the corporate ladder, I joined my sister at TGND Consulting as a full-time mompreneur.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship is everything but smooth sailing. During my journey to full-time entrepreneurship, there have been many obstacles along the way. I grew from many struggles and others that have taught me many valuable lessons. As a young black businesswoman surrounded by seasoned professionals in your industry, you’re bound to have struggles, whether it’s feeling like you have what it takes to grow a business or being equipped with the tools to stay innovative throughout the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. When I started, I found many things I needed to learn to be a successful entrepreneur; the first was the mindset shift needed to succeed. As a collective, my sister and I struggled to scale our business. We worked extremely hard but weren’t growing at the expected pace. That’s when we realized to scale; we first had to niche down and get clearer about our vision. To do this, we joined an accelerator program and found a mentor to help guide us through the first couple of years in business. This, by far, has changed the entire game for us. Being surrounded and supported by a community of other PR and marketing professionals has truly helped us grow, create valuable relationships, and gain priceless knowledge.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My business partner, family, and the communities I am a part of have played a major role in the success of our business today. I have been blessed to be able to work alongside my twin sister (my business partner). She has been a big part of my mompreneurship journey as I transitioned into entrepreneurship to help her scale our business. My family has helped me get through the rough patches of mompreneurship whenever I have felt like giving up or experiencing the overwhelmedness of juggling it all. The communities I have joined have been a great support system in keeping TGND Consulting innovative with fresh new ideas and strategies used within our industry for our business to scale. I believe it truly takes a village, and I have been blessed with the village created for me in this journey. Most importantly, no success would be possible without the faith of God. My number one and biggest supporter!
