Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Morrison.
Hi Doug, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been riding BMX since 1999 and professionally since 2008. The Forward BMX Show started in 2018 and very shortly thereafter, we were offered a tour contract with the Bureau of Lectures, a company that specialized in booking school assembly programs nationwide. My wife and I started the business together and after Covid, the Bureau folded so we struck out on our own and it’s been a mile a minute ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a wild ride! It’s just me and my wife running things and we have an amazing son who was born during the pandemic. When schools reopened after the shutdowns, we were new parents and doing all our own booking for the first time and things really took off quickly. We’re blessed that so many things fell into place right on time, but every journey has it’s share of challenges and ours is no different.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets us apart is our commitment to bringing the very top professional BMX talent to every show. Our mission is to create a memorable experience and a lasting impression for spectators. With our school assembly shows, we want to inspire the next generation to find their passion and develop their capacity for taking on big challenges. And hopefully create a few future BMX riders, too!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Our #1 priority is the experience of our audiences. We represent a very niche sport and there’s a good chance at every show that someone is being exposed to BMX for the first time. So, we always want to make a big impression to reflect well on our sport and on those that have invested in bringing our show to their school or organization. And we really just want to bring up everyone’s energy and make them say “wow!’
