Daily Inspiration: Meet Dr. Andi Mackin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Andi Mackin.

Dr. Andi Mackin

Hi Dr. Mackin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my chiropractic journey over 10 years ago. I was an athlete raised by athletes, so injuries just become a part of life. When I was trying to figure out what to do with my life, I knew I wanted to be in healthcare but wasn’t sure where I fit in. My dad was the one who pushed me toward chiropractic. I ended up shadowing a doctor who was sponsoring my mom’s roller derby league and realized that holistic healthcare and chiropractic were where I needed to be! I went to college with the dream of becoming a sports chiropractor until I worked for a pediatric and pre-natal office when I learned that I love working with children and families. From there I moved to South Carolina with my now husband and started the journey of actually becoming what I have always dreamed of being. I always knew I wanted to run my own office and be my own boss, so almost immediately after graduating from chiropractic school at the end of 2022, I opened up my office!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The small business road is never smooth! I knew how to adjust and the process of taking care of patients, but I didn’t know business, marketing, or even where to start! I am grateful that I have so many people close to me that were there supporting me through the early months when I had no idea if I would be open the next month or not! I remember sitting in my office on my first-day opening, waiting for my first phone call that never came and crying to my husband, asking what I was doing wrong. It took a lot of work and time to get my first person in, and then it started snowballing. I am still so early in my business journey, so there is so much more to learn about what makes a small business successful.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, as a chiropractor, my primary focus is the nervous system. Most people think that chiropractors just crack backs, but it is so much more than that! My primary job is to local, analyze, and correct what we call “subluxations,” which is just a fancy chiropractic term for misaligned vertebrae. These subluxations can occur due to a lot of factors. Most people know about injuries like car accidents, falls, or overuse. What most people don’t know is that poor diet, lack of water, stress levels, and even the way we talk to and about ourselves can cause subluxations!

I mainly focus on family wellness, especially for those with ADHD, autism, and mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. I also specialize in a technique called Network Spinal, which uses low-force contacts to ease tension in the spinal cord itself, not just the spinal bones!

I am most proud of my ability to create a space where my practice members feel comfortable and relaxed. I am not an in or out office. I like to spend time with my people and learn about what’s going on in their lives and what is happening outside of their bodies. I love being able to joke and laugh with my people!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I love what I do! I’m glad that life brought me to where I am today and that I get to do what I love every day! People always say, “When you love what you do, you never work a day in your life,” and I agree with that fully! The journey to get to where I am was not easy in the slightest, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
