Daily Inspiration: Meet Dr Cortesha Cowan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Cortesha Cowan.

Hi Dr. Cowan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I am a mother, wife, grandmother and a child of God; who loves helping others. Even as a young child I was driven to help others. This passion was amplified after becoming a teen mother and overcoming every adversity. I wanted to show other teen moms they can also. So to fulfill my desire of helping others, I founded Mothers Helping Mothers Inc. MHM is an assistance program for teen mothers. We specialize in helping homeless teen mothers get back on track. We also help mothers in crisis to keep their children when facing separation through child protection services. In addition to MHM, I am also a Business Birthing Coach, Motivational Speaker and Author. In addition I have co-written 10 bestselling books. I am very passionate about helping women walk in their purpose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I began in business, I built partnerships with anyone I could. I learned some hard lessons and how to be more selective in whom I do business with. Now I am diligent in researching potential partners. This has helped me with growing strength in MHM.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Everything I do is to empower women of all ages. From supportive services and personal development to business development and coaching; I believe women can change the world if given the keys to change their circumstances..

I am most proud that our agency has been able to now do work overseas. We started helping teenage mothers in Cape Town, South Africa in 2019 one of our major accomplishments; over 22,000 girls have been helped in that country since we started our program there.
What sets me apart from others is that We see my clients as people not numbers. We listen to their needs, it’s not just about what we want for them but what they want for themselves.
And we have a world vision for all women of all ages & in all stages of life.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love this city because of the networking and willingness to work together. I was especially moved by the women that gravitate to help me with my program. They are genuine in the support of our efforts to help young mothers.

I love the culture, there are so many Black Owned businesses here.
I’m from Ohio so the thing I least like about this city is the traffic. I’m trying my best to get used to it, it’s one of the things that makes me strategic when I go out to network. I’m learning the best times and days that I should go out.
Overall I love and I’m looking forward to my future here.
