Today we’d like to introduce you to Dreshawn Scott
Hi Dreshawn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been doing what I love for 10yrs now , however I have always loved everything beauty. My love started young growing up seeing my mom & women in my family do hair. I used to help my mom lay her tracks for her quick weaves & watched the entire process . I noticed how my mom & the women around me felt & looked after their hair was done & I wanted to help others have the same feeling. That extra confidence alone ( which I’m sure we all know ) speaks volumes . I moved to Atlanta which seems like yesterday 4yrs ago , I’ve had my ups & downs however I have always remained to stay prayed up in my most vulnerable , difficult times & I thank my grandmother & the people I love for being my inspiration & shoulder to Lean on when I need it . I got here off faith , hard work , & my will to know I will be the person I am destined to be. Nothing ever came easy I have endured many times over what I once felt was “ the crushing “ is now the beginning for what’s to come .
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I arrived here honestly it was during during covid, & I was working out of my home at the time however everything & everyone was thriving no matter the circumstance at hand . Even when I finally started working in a salon “ my dream salon I wanted to work in to be exact “ i felt I honestly made it I was able to do allot more for myself and my family even the people around me but that I feel was a time lived & took a turn. Inflation started my third year head & what was once my income diminished drastically & it became heavy . So I did what most of us have to do “ start over “ I felt like a failure , not knowing where to start , or how … but it’s true what they say “ what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger “ so I chose to fight . I refuse to give up, when my next answered prayer is inches away & neither should anyone else. Life is full of obstacles but it’s up to us to make it through & with prayer I know we will make it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a hairstylist & I do women’s hair. I am mostly known for my weave services from sew ins , wigs , quickweaves . I am mainly proud of myself & I don’t mean that in a vain way. I feel the ability to make someone feel great about themselves wether they know it or not is a blessing many aren’t given. People are happy around me & I feel that alone says enough.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I still see my industry thriving , it’s allot we all have to learn I feel now in the new years especially with social media being a major part of our income now . Digital products is really a big factor at the moment , so figuring out what works for you or what you could contribute in the the years to come could be key. It’s going to be allot of evolving but “ the soil is still good “ so we are going to thrive if we work together & really open to staying up with different techniques mixing a little old with something new could be the shift we need. Speaking of product, I have a product coming out next year in 2025 I haven’t really decided on an official date however I’m very excited & nervous to share what I’ve been working on with the world .
