Daily Inspiration: Meet Elise Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Rose.

Hi Elise, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Beauty Is The Beast, Inc is a non-profit organization that was started in 2019. I decided to introduce my struggles with lipo-lymphedema through photography. In March of 2019, I put together a photoshoot here in Atlanta that would reveal my coming out and the start of BITB. Several of the participants traveled from out of state to be a part of this moment with me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Anything worth doing will never be smooth sailing! Of course, there were struggles in the beginning and I do anticipate others in the future. The only struggle really is getting the non-profit further out in the public. When you are a newby, you first have to work on making a name for yourself and getting the public familiar with what you do and what you stand for. However, I know it will be worth it just to get where I know BITB needs to be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As it pertains to BITB, I have become a voice and an inspiration to many. I decided to turn my medical condition (lipo-lymphedema) into a teachable moment. Day by day, my mobility is declining however, I continue to find ways to keep pushing while using this horribly painful experience to advocate, educate and spread awareness. It’s not easy exposing your most vulnerable part of yourself to world. I am proud of the many accomplishments I have made thus far since starting BITB. I have been able to conduct mini motivational seminars, raise toiletries to give out the less fortunate and I am now raising donations to help some families that were affected by most recently, BITB had a back-to-school give away for 2021-22 school year.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Absolutely, I have taken risks. The biggest one was decided to use pictures myself (more so my lipo-lymphedema affected legs) and putting them on social media. The world is filled with cruel people who have found social media to be a playground for their madness. And me putting up those types of pictures puts me right in the middle of their playing grounds. Everyday I dread reading that comment from an insensitive prick!
