Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Dorsey.
Hi Ella, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My fascination with the weather started when I was four years old. My dad gave me a Discovery Channel VCR (yeah, throwback) when I was four years old called “Tornado, Hurricane, Flood”. I watched it religiously. Fast forward to college, I decided to major in meteorology, knowing I would love studying the weather. I didn’t think I would go into TV or news, but after an internship at a local TV station, I fell in love with broadcasting. I started my career in Knoxville, Tennessee, and two years later, got a job back in Atlanta. I’ve been here for almost eight years now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I love my job, but it’s not easy. The schedule is the hardest part. Working on TV news means you either work weekends, early mornings, or late nights. Each of these comes with personal sacrifice that can be really tough at times. I currently work mornings, so my alarm goes off at 3:30am. Bedtime is 7pm. You learn a new type of exhaustion, waking up in the middle of the night and having to have energy to wake other people up. That being said, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m adopted! I grew up as an only child, but I found my half-brother and sister through 23&me in 2020. I’m super close with them now. It’s been an incredible experience.
