Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Guerrero
Hi Erik, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started from where i was an intern for a clothing brand called Amok kidz when i was originally going to start my brand as well (under the works). i originally wanted to start on clothes but eventually it got to the point where i was really just designing clothes for my friend Rondo for Three Points Gco and Black Butterfly. once i was already started designing, we needed a photographer and me being me i had started off using my camera that i got a thrift store which at the time i was in works on how to really use it. I started off shooting for the brand and really from there it was getting better and better. Once time went by i wanted to challenge myself on doing more because thats when i started to really enjoy shooting because every shot that i took, was like a memory and being in the moment. i started to go to underground shows and started up to meet up a new friend named Luciano Wallace . At the time he was throwing parties called Dark Envy and at the time i just started taking pictures of the culture and parties and really from there he saw the vision on me loving the music and fashion. later on he helped me on getting to my goals such as being around the music culture and fashion culture because we had the same interest. literally started to take advise from him on shooting with him but not only just him but the brands around him and just connecting with other creators. its started to get to the point where i just love music and fashion, i really just want to be a part of it. once i started to find my niche then it got to the point where i wanted to set myself around artist and other content creators to really be intune most of the pictures are really in the moment or events or just hanging out. .
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
it has its ups and downs. i would say being a creative and real life situations can be challenging. there was time where i would just couch surf just cause i would want the best content for myself. there was time where i was just try to survive to really put my work out there just so someone could really see it . i would say the most struggling thing would be the mental and financial part. but one thing i always say to myself , its all going to pay off in the future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
most of my work is based on film photography. slowly building up a platform on just blackberry video/photography content. yes i said it blackberry. i also just started just doing more videography bts because alot of people do not know what goes on behind the scene. i really just try to learn as much as i can to really move foward and really create something. im known for being a real person. im really to myself but im all about experiences and really just gaining a real life connection and just being in the moment. probably one of the most consistent photographers in the city as we speak. but im really more consistent so everyone can see im really a hard worker and want to show that i care . what im really most proud of i would say gaining real relationship with artist and celebrities. why i say that, is because growing up i would never think i would be in the same room as them but really its all about gaining true interactions and really helping other people gain their success such as them doing the same to me. i feel like what set me apart from other photographers or videographers is that, i get approach alot. and its not purpose. it just happens . i feel like for me im really a down to earth type of guy and really just want to set love and peace with others because i want to see people win such as myself.
Any big plans?
my plans in the future is really trying to get to the point where i can get signed with someone so i can fully do what i actually want to do. i cant really tell what will happen in the future because i dont like to focus too much in the future because im more in-tune in the present moment in life. what i am looking forward is really just keep working with big opportunities. alot of open doors that i want to take and challenge. really travel more around the states or even the country. go tour / events
