Daily Inspiration: Meet Flower

Today we’d like to introduce you to Flower.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a youngin, I was very, very shy. I would not sing for anyone. Then one day in middle school, I was like, “Lemme audition for this play.” It was Aladdin Jr. at the theatre in my hometown. I auditioned and folks really liked my voice. Then I started growing out of my shyness from there; being in plays, a group: J.A.D.E., in high school. Then in college, I joined an acapella group, the UNCG Sapphires. I have to thank them the most! Because of that group, I discovered so many different genres of music. The way I listen to music is different because of that group. I just appreciate music so much more by being in that group. I stopped singing for a lil while. Then I started working on music and recording with my friend-parents, Volz and Dev. I started posting my progress with them and people started to notice me on Instagram. I recorded a song, my song, “The Watering”, with this guy. I met up with some of the members in steady at this talent show at my school and they really f*cked with ya girl. I started kickin it with them and the music has just been a part of my life ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would have to say, for the most part, it’s been quite lovely. For me to have come out with my first song a little over a year ago, things are amazing. People sing my lyrics. People love watching me at shows. People use my music to help them through things. I mean, it’s great. The only time it’s not smooth is when I’m feeling uninspired and not writing. I feel like I should always be creating. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be a good artist because the people I am inspired by are amazing artists and if I ever want to meet them, I have to go extra hard all of the time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to call myself “an entertainer” because I just like to entertain people in any capacity. I work as a nanny and even then, I’m entertaining. When I read to the kids, I try to be animated with my voice. When we play, I really go all out. I think I’m quite the comedian. I post on my IG story often and people really seem to like it. I’ve been into TikTok recently. I have a YouTube channel, Flower in Bloom. I make music and host shows. I’ve really been trying to get into character more at performances. I model. I act. I just entertain people.

I am really proud of my authenticity. Even though I post for other people’s entertainment, at the end of the day, that is me. That’s how I would behave if a camera wasn’t on me and I think people really notice and appreciate that. That same quality is what sets me apart from others. People don’t know who they really are or like to pretend to be things they aren’t and it shows. It’s dope as heck really just embracing who I am as a human being and living in that truth every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Geez umm. So many little things: the sun, being outside in nature, spending time with my favorite humans, thrifting, seeing my a** get fatter. Nature is truly my favorite place to be. If it’s a nice day, more than likely I’m outside. It just does something to my vessel. Like a recharge or complete reset. There are humans I like, ya know, people can be cool. But then there are my favorite humans. These are people who I know for a fact just being in their presence brings me peace. They know who they are!

Thrifting is lovely because I just feel like a real fashionista. It gives me this rush like “ooo, this is slight ugly as the f*ck, but if I do a lil of this and a lil of that, this could be a fire outfit.”

And ya know, when my a** if fat, I just feel sooo much more confident. el oh el
