Today we’d like to introduce you to Harold Harris.
Hi Harold, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in my hometown Paducah Kentucky where my grandmother reather Garnett lived for 84 years my mom moved me my brother and sister away to Atlanta in 1999 and I would go back and fourth for years and I would stay with my grandmother and she would always tell me to love everyone don’t judge anyone and always live your passion never second guess what your heart desires and I kept that in my heart and soul for years but I didn’t truly understand exactly what she meant until the day she passed and it hit me like cold wind on ice living and growing up in Atlanta I would always see homelessness everywhere especially downtown and I’d always give my shoes clothes or whatever I had In my possession it got to a point of my family telling me I’m to nice at times lol but I never thought to much about it was always a desire in my heart and the day my grandmother passed I went outside I fed over 200 people experiencing homelessness shortly after doing that I got encouraged to do it weekly no promotion no team no grants nothing jus pure passion and as I kept doing this week after week I got a call from SafeHouse outreach which is a very profound non profit organization here in the metro Atlanta area and they offered me the opportunity to use their facility to do my club Luv service so now I have a space a kitchen volunteers and I’m learning more and more about my true passion with great experienced pure hearts as we serve over 200 people experiencing homelessness once a month at the SafeHouse outreach facility while maintaining our weekly service under the bridges and the streets of Atlanta at the same time as we speak.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been pretty smooth as far as the non profit organization goes we’ve seen nothing but growth and we’re reaching more and more hearts everyday as we continue to serve and feed but we would like to do more as far as clothing and hygiene and even step into helping getting people housing and healthcare resources so it’s been challenging trying to graduate from just serving food and conversation to Doing more as we would please we still do everything out of our own pockets which is no problem but with more Interaction with the people experiencing homelessness we jus want to do more so we’re steady throwing events that the community can participate in as far as donations and resources so we can give more to the streets of Atlanta with our service our slogan is Club Luv “We Meet You Where You Are” and in my personal life my 4month old daughter was murdered by her mother which is my baby mother and that took a toll on me of course this happened September 2020 she’s in Newton county jail awaiting trail and that truly only made me go harder for my passion as I see single mothers with babies living in boxes and they would dare take their child’s life we all have hearts souls and we deserve pure love with mout judgement and I stand in that even with the person who murdered my daughter.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is pure; we go under the bridges in Atlanta, we go to the places most people stay away from and we put all our efforts into changing hearts; we feed the hungry we clothed the naked and we give real conversations of encouragement and love we also try our best to reconnect individuals with their families and go find programs that fit their needs and give them access to phones and internet if possible determining the case and who were dealing with at the time.
I also do music. I’ve been recording music since the age of 10 my first record deal was with a gospel label; I did two albums and then we parted ways. I’ve always kept that God in me just felt as if I wanted to be less judgmental and more pure and real with my passion and mission to touch hearts around the world. I’m known for being a selfless person who loves the streets and loves to record music and loves being a father anybody who’s in my life will grow with positivity pure love and ambition to heal hearts.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was going to the doughnut shop on the southside of Paducah, Kentucky on my bike and get glazed doughnuts for my mom and our dog Shaq.
