Daily Inspiration: Meet Jaelin Lazenberry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaelin Lazenberry.

Hi Jaelin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was struggling to find myself while in college. My biggest obstacle was finding what I was truly passionate about. After high school, I felt that picking a major, graduating college and working a 9-5 was next for me. Here is where my struggle began. I had changed my major three times in a three-year period. Crazy! I was not inspired and none of it seemed to grasp my attention. I had to dig deep. Since I was a child, I always dreamed of being a nurse, so shortly after I became a CNA and was doing hair on the side. It was definitely tiring but I seemed to be more bothered by not being able to express myself.

I was always told to get a nude/simple color on my nails, cover my tattoos and they couldn’t stand if my extensions were too long. I wanted to be in an industry where I could be myself, express my creativity and truly enjoy my job. Shortly after, I found out that I was expecting my first child and my focus began to shift. It’s true, y’know? When you have a child that looks up to you, all your fears are no longer. I decided that I was going to step out on faith and turn my hobby into my career. That started the journey of By Baelin.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting By Baelin was not an easy journey. Most of my frustration came from the internal battle I was having with myself. I questioned my talent, my decisions and if working for myself was even possible. Starting up a business just seemed totally left field to me. I’m an overthinker and things just seemed almost impossible to reach. Having a child truly grounded me and I had no choice but to overcome my fears. I had a child to take care and I had to just do it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work consists of those fun, cute and flirty hairstyles. Most of my installs incorporate extensions but has a natural look to them. I’m most known for the “half up half down” hairstyle. My future plans are to introduce my custom wig units, which will highlight my color and cut skills. When it comes to doing hair, it’s not about the money for me. My prices are affordable and I make sure not to overbook myself. I like to take my time with each client, they appreciate it. Some people really have no clue about what style best suits them, what kind of condition their hair is in or how to keep their hair up. What sets me apart is that I’m genuine and I care about each person that chooses to sit in my chair.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
COVID has definitely taught me to take chances and believe in myself. We’re not for certain about what can happen the next week, next year or the next day. You have to be willing to take risks. The worst thing you can do is not take a chance on something you believe in.
