Daily Inspiration: Meet Jahnya Gilkes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahnya Gilkes.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I’ve always loved fashion and music. I knew at five years old that I wanted to work in the fashion industry and in middle school music really help me get through a lot as a child. Started modeling when I was 16 years old; I used that to build my network and experience within the Fashion Industry. Then I realized I wanted to take designing serious and also start styling I created my brand Planet 47. I use my creative designs and outfits I put together to tell a story or sometimes just to make a statement. Music wise I started off play piano, guitar and steelpan but slowly realized maybe I wanted to be a producer. In college, I got bored of that and stumbled upon artist management and fell in love with helping other creatives be successful within the music industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Accomplishing goals both big or small are never easy. Going through college and starting adulthood while trying to also start and maintain a business or 2 came with lot of different struggles like money/capital, time management, focus, motivation, and inspiration. I am literally figuring out life as I go and I believe especially after the pandemic everyone is. I just take it day by day and continue to better myself and my businesses as time goes by. My main focus is to create/gain more exposure for the platforms I’ve created.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a multi-talented person. I am a Fashion Designer, Wardrobe Stylist, Artist Manager and Certified Bartender/ Mixologist. I own a clothing brand called Planet 47. An artist management and development company called LyricallyMinded MGT. Also, a mobile bartending service called Shot O’Clock. I proud to say that I love everything I do and I am great at everything I do. Being able to learn and perfect multiple different things while growing and glowing in all is a very humbling experience. These businesses doesn’t just make me happy; it makes others happy. I am creating a platform and experience through all 3. Where I can help people showcase their emotions whether it’s through what they wear and how they wear it or what type of music they put out and how it makes others feel or even what they drink and how that drink is presented. Using my creativity to engage the community to interact with each other.

Any big plans?
My plan right now is to get back stable in creating content and building my business. These past few years has been so hard on everyone and I am still catching myself from the pandemic; business-wise. I plan on releasing a new collection for my clothing brand and also will be taking new clients to style. Music wise I am looking for more upcoming artists to work with and help make their dreams come true. Bartending wise I would love to eventually own my own bar/lounge in the ATL area.
