Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamir Smith.
Hi Jamir, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Fashion and design have always been a passion of mine since growing up in NC. I had the opportunity to work for Tyler Perry Studios, Walt Disney World and most recently, a senior manager with Bloomingdales (NYC, DC, and Atlanta). COVID-19 not only affected my family but my career. I was laid off from my job, which I worked for 10.5 years at Bloomingdales and was at a crossroads. Creativity is always the answer to everything, so I remembered my passion of speaking at events and building relationships. That’s when I prayed and created, The JamirSmithShow Podcast “. The show is currently heard on ten platforms in addition to a weekly blog. The JamirSmithShow Podcast is a lifestyle show where guest regularly records their thoughts, experiences and or talks about aspects of their daily lives. In addition, it’s a platform that helps support entrepreneurs and provides a safe space in which they can advertise their products/services.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The challenges which I have faced were learning how to build from the ground up! Reading and watching YouTube really helped me understand brand management, website building and sponsorships. Financially I had to do it all alone since I was dealing with being laid off, in a pandemic and living off of an unemployment check. I learned how to budget, plan and work with other creatives to build my brand. Creating content weekly, finding sponsors and partnering with other podcasters felt distant at times but I was able to build the confidence, dig into my past relationships with other creatives, a evolve a strong foundation.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently working in a luxury interior design firm in Buckhead as an Associate Leader of Restoration Hardware. I have the opportunity every day to learn a new career and use my leadership to help coach teams to build relationships and drive revenue. I have a strong luxury fashion background with working as a Senior Business Manager with Bloomingdales for over 10.5 years in (NYC, DC & Atlanta). I am most proud of the work I have done with Tyler Perry Studios in the wardrobe department and the relationships I built. I was able to transfer those skills with running a seven million dollar business with Bloomingdales to currently building a Leadership luxury interior design career with RH. My enthusiasm, strong work ethic and luxury menswear style set me apart from the pack. I have been able to establish long-lasting relationships with my charismatic personality to my high-end fashion eye. I will always leave that lasting impression!
