Today we’d like to introduce you to Janeleen Sanchez.
Hi Janeleen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As I was promoting my son who does music, I became acquainted via social media with a film director. She then asked me if she can shoot a scene for Pocket Full of Game 1 at my apartment which I agreed to. Long story short, the original Silk did not show up for her scene while everyone is ready to shoot she then asked me to take over the role, as everyone turned and looked at me, I agreed to it but had a strong feeling this was big, I step in and took over and got into character in minutes it was as if I’ve done this before I was a natural. This became a huge blessing although I played a villain lol I then started getting booked for other gigs, such as Foster Sin, Bully the Rico story and more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t smooth sailing unfortunately lol only because while everyone had about a year to rehearse lines, I had literally 5 mins. I also struggle with remembering my lines so I had to train my mind to say don’t read it be it, be the character and feel it, which can be difficult because you want to make sure your director is happy with your performance. Not to mention I’m very subconscious about my image which most women are being in front of a camera let’s admit it we want to look our best.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently working as a secretary at an auto body shop while working on my real estate license. On top of working on perfecting my craft as an actress to promoting my skills any way I can to be more noticed and known which is happening little by little. What makes me stand out is my personality and what makes me super proud is my two sons who I raised alone by choice but their turn out is impeccable. They say it starts at home and it takes a village to raise children so to see how amazing both my boys turned out, I know I did something right.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I can see comedy making a big impact in the industry within the next 5-10 years. Especially for women one thing I noticed is there are a lot more female comedians making their own shows and starring in movies such as Tiffany Haddish and Wanda Skyes.
